Is anyone else using the new listing tool and having their MACBOOK pro just shutting down ?

Hi Folks,

Is anyone else using this new listing tool having their Macbook Pro just shut down. It does it every time i try to post a new listing.

If so any solutions. I really want to use the old way.

Thanks

@shopbags

I'm on a Macbook Pro and can, after a struggle, get a listing posted with the new form.  I'm on Big Sur 11.7 and Firefox 105.0.2.

What's your OS?  Browser?

My old (2011) MacBook Pro is incompatible with the new eBay listing tool, so I had to switch to my newer (2021) MacBook Pro.

While the 2021 MacBook Pro is an updated model, it has eliminated most of the great photo listing accessories  which had been featured in the 2011 MacBook Pro.  So my photos are no longer quite so attractive.

The new eBay listing tool seems to take its time downloading, however. . ..

Hi Tealt,

Thanks for replying. High Sierra 10.13.6 Using chrome but will try on Safari and maybe download Firefox.

One of the ebay CS reps said maybe i should clear my cache. I was able to make a sell similar listing but ever since just crashing half way through.

You might want to upgrade your OS to Big Sur or even Monterey (if your Macbook Pro isn't too old).  Mine was made in December of 2013, and I'm going to have to replace it to keep up with the OS changes.

Another seller was on this board yesterday with a MacBook using an up-to-date Safari and having issues with the new tool.  There was no way of knowing if Safari was part of the problem.  I use FireFox, but that's just my preference.

Clearing cache is always a good idea, I think.  I hate clearing cookies because I have to re-fill various stuff.

I don't have specific info about Macbooks, but I was on a Zoom with eBay this AM & asked a member of the new listing tool team if they were toying with the idea of letting people use the old listing tool, which was so much better & the answer is no. They told me the old tool is on an old technology platform, so they must be moving away from it. They did however say that they are aware of the postings on here & are constantly improving it.

Your best bet is to post specifics about what you don't like & to use the feeback link to give SPECIFIC info on what is causing you problems. Those links DO work, I have been contacted numerous times by eBay in regards to things I submitted via the links.  So if several of you are having problem with using it from a Macbook, please be sure to send details in the "tell us what you think" link.

I'm going to have to replace my 2013 Macbook Pro soon.

If it isn't too much trouble, what "photo accessories"  will I be loosing when I buy the latest model?

The 2021 MacBook Pro which I purchased has only LIMITED scanning capabilities (I still haven't figured out how to store a scanned photo after completing the scan -- so I'm simply taking photos from an iPad, and sending them through my gmail to be transferred to my eBay account).

In addition, the newer MacBook Pro has NO capabilities for raising or lowering pixel sizes, or for raising or lowering brightness levels, or for editing photos in ANY manner whatsoever.  When I mentioned to a member of Best Buy's Geek Squad of  how necessary these functions were to me and my eBay sales, he simply looked confused, as if to say "But why would anybody actually need those functions?"  Kids these days. . ..

Maybe there is a better laptop from a competitor of Apple which actually HAS those valuable functions.  In the meantime, I am trying some clumsy workarounds, which are not as attractive, but will have to suffice.

Good luck!

It has built-in software called Preview which can do a lot of that. The Photos app can do a lot of that.

I personally use Photoshop, but there is built in software with MBP for photo editing that would probably suit your needs.

Not sure what you're talking about with limited scanning capabilities? I have a plethora of options for scanning and saving documents. If your options are limited it may have something to do with the printer/scanner you're using.

MBP is not limited in the ways you seem to think it is. Ya gotta explore more.

I'm on updated Monterey using both Safari and Firefox and the new listing tool is slow and has loading issues. I can't imagine how bad it would be if you were using an outdated OS.

Thank you!

When I go to buy my new Macbook, I will definitely ask about photo editing.  I take my photos on my iPhone and then send them via the iCloud to my laptop.  If I can't even crop and rotate my photos on the laptop, I am in trouble!

I live a mile or so from Apple world headquarters, and there is an Apple Store there.  Perhaps some of those bright young techies can present me with some other options or workarounds.  I'm way too old to learn another type of laptop.  Sigh.

@tealt

Never too old!! LOL.  I am OLD, and if I can do it, so can you!  This is the freeware I use for photo editing on my Windows  PC.  I located a Mac version for you if it is something you can use.  Lots of tutorials availble on the net as well.  There are "older" versions of the program,  too.
