I'm still confused by how local pickup works if I'm the seller. We meet up and the buyer has to pay via Paypal? What if he later starts a case with paypal or later with his credit card claiming he never got the item? What proof do I have to let Paypal know for sure he did get the item? That's the part I don't understand. I don't want to worry buyer will later file a claim against me.
What if the buyer does some searching and finds out you have the item for sale locally and at a lower price and before buying on Ebay, he asks via the local site if he can buy from you locally (not Ebay) at the lower price YET still wants to pay via Paypal. He refuses to pay cash.
I tell him if we meet locally (not the ebay transaction), that I accept cash only . He still wants to use Paypal. I sell locally quite a bit but only accept cash. Why wouldn't a buyer still want to use Paypal? I've never had a buyer locally ask to pay any other way but cash. He seemed peeved that I would not do that.
Thanks.

Pay close attention to your next ebay statement you might get tagged for FVF offsite sale....

There was no reason why he couldn't pay with cash

Some people don't have any ready cash, that's why they use credit cards and paypal credit etc.. Perhaps your buyer didn't have any ready cash?

You and buyer are scheduling pickup. How long does it take to go to the atm and withdraw cash prior to meeting up?

Maybe the buyer doesn't have any money in the bank and needs to pay with a credit card.

He could get a cash advance on his credit card.

No money in the bank - having to put everything on a credit card or get cash advances - I see a person who is extremely over extended and would prefer not to have to deal with him.

You would prefer not to deal with about 30% of the US Population?
While I prefer to have pick up order paid with cash I'm not going to turn away a sale just because of PayPal fees. There is no more risk (less in fact) in accepting PayPal for a pick-up order than for any "normal" eBay sale that is shipped. The best part is that when paid via PayPal the seller has the money and they hold the cards in terms of arranging a convenient (to the seller) pick-up.

So are you saying if a seller uses paypal there is no way he can file a case with paypal or his credit card company?
I remember a thread here where a seller accepted paypal for local pickup and the buyer did open a case? I cannot remember how it turned out but I see an opening for problems.
Otherwsie why would so many insist on cash.
And I am talking about snad not item not received, obviously.

And when your buyer says he didn't recieve the item and files a case through PayPal, what are you going to supply as a tracking number or proof of delivery?

"He could get a cash advance on his credit card."
Paying with PayPal is easier.

"And when your buyer says he didn't recieve the item and files a case through PayPal, what are you going to supply as a tracking number or proof of delivery?"
Proof of delivery is not required on items that are picked up.

You would point out that it was a local pick-up sale and therefore not covered by Buyer Protection by either eBay or PayPal thus no proof of delivery is required.
I don't understand why sellers offer local pick-up when they appear to think that every buyer is trying to scam them. I actually don't understand why they even sell at all given they seem to think that every buyer on eBay will pull a scam if the opportunity presents itself.

"So are you saying if a seller uses paypal there is no way he can file a case with paypal or his credit card company?"
If a buyer uses PayPal to pay for a local pickup item, they can try to file a complaint, but they will lose.

With small sellers selling their own item, in the diamond jewelry category, I am seeing more and more local pickup only when it is an expensive thousands of dollars piece.

So no way they can do a chargeback with their credit card company?
