Irma update

We are safe but our county is destroyed. I've never seen anything like this in my whole life! No power or running water since early Sunday night. 6 days of sweltering heat & no showers.

i sent my sons to a hotel today so they can shower & cool off.

I boarded my overweight little dog at the vet so she would have a/c & not die. She was going to die.

The other 3 were struggling but I thought they'd survive. It's been in the high 90's. We tried sleeping outside, in the car everything. We haven't slept a total of an hour in 6 days.

well, the power was supposed to be on tomorrow but now they say the 20th. Well, I went a little cuckoo from the heat, lack of sleep & hunger. My gosh! I ate hot dogs from the fire dept the other day & im a vegetarian for 20 yrs. It was so hot & we were so hungry. We now know what real suffering is. Anyway, my friends & neighbors got concerned & talked a total stranger into loaning me a generator. My friend loaned me a small window a/c. Still no running water but I've gotten creative. I waste no water.

Its still 80 degrees in here but Air is moving & im not sweating. My poor dogs aren't panting & went to sleep finally. It's so sad here! They're throwing the sick & the elderly out of the one shelter we have so the kids can go back to school Monday. Most families have no power or water, some have no homes. A home down the street burned to the ground when the elderly man went to sleep with a candle burning. He's in the hospital.

Please pray for us all & especially the kind gentleman that loaned me his new generator & the man in the hospital.

Kind generator man if you're an eBay member, I just want to say I will not let you down. You'll get your generator back in the same condition I got it.

To the eBay seller that rushed to ship the battery operated fans I ordered, Thank you! I'm using them right now.

I will pay it forward!

There is still goodness in the world! I've seen it!

Love you all whether I know you or not! Glad to be alive this day! Remember money, ebay, stuff...none of that is important in life at all. Your loved ones are all that matters!

Please, will everyone do a random act of kindness in honor of the good people of Florida & the the ones that didn't survive of which there are many?

My friends Aunt was crushed by a tree, her husband unscathed right next to her. There are electrocutions, house fires, car accidents, drownings, you name it. Florida may never be the same. If you live here, you know what I mean.

Thank you & be safe!

Patricia, I am glad to hear that you made it thru and that you have resources to make your life bearable.

A few years ago there was an ice storm with sub zero temps that took out power for over a week here.  The people in the neighborhood pitched in and helped each other.  Some of the people with generators offered up their plugs to recharge things, neighbors that could shoveled for those that couldn't, there was door knocking and check ups and warm up times and we all made it though.  Sounds like you have some of that and hugs to them.

I typed up a reply and of couse the forum lost it!! Don't feel like doing it all over. Bullets....

What County are you in?  Florida is about the worst State for no Power, it never cools down here, with horribly hot and muggy evenings. I'm in Pinellas, got power back Friday. Folks on same street still without!

SO glad you got the generator loan out! Very dangerous for animals to be overheated. They can succomb much quicker than ppl. Any heavy breathing means they need water. Not only internally, but on their skin too. Use a spray bottle, hose, damp rags, anything to cool them down. Always have a bowl of water available. Areas by me were giving out free water and ice.

The news by me makes it sound like no one died from this except the Broward County Nursing home deaths, right across from a Hospital!! Pathetic and unexcusable!!

Be sure to apply for disaster relief at the FEMA website. It's very simple to apply! Surprising for a government agency!

I know the majority of ebayers aren't impacted by this and it's business as usual. I was surprised by the number of buyer inquiries I received while hurricane impacted. They didn't even realize there was a hurricane across all of Florida! Know there are ppl like myself who understand and do care. Please let us know when you get power back.

I hate to tell you this, but ebay won't allow mention of any funding. It will result in deleting your post.

Prayers for all!

I'm so, so glad you are safe!  All of you Floridians have been in my prayers since you were hit.  And you are so very right that the only things that really matter are the people and the animals.  I wish I could send you some of my coolness - I worked with a sweatshirt on today.

As to Jose - I'm on the edge of the projected path of it (Martha's Vineyard).  If it moves to the west, I could get a direct hit.  I'm not worried about my house, it is on very high ground and has survived quite a few hurrcanes in its 120 years, but my retail store is about 4 feet above sea level.  I would have to move a horrendous amount of merchandise in a huge hurry.

Hugs, positive thoughts and more prayers headed your way and to everyone hurt by these storms....

Your track for Jose differs from the one at 6 pm tonight - Jose is forecasted to make another loop and then maybe make landfall in the US. That was one station. Another has the track along the Eastern seaboard with possibly making landfall from Rhode Island to Mass.

With hurriacanes - it ain't over till it's over and far out in the Atlantic on its way to Europe.

I am glad you are safe, and much good luck in rebuilding your community.

Just saw that Jose will not be coming to the East Coast, but rather out to sea, and I breathed a big sigh of relief.

Around here it is hurricanes and also Northeaster snow storms.

These storms are just barrelling in one after another now, trying to be sure they cover all the US!! Problem is, even with all their advanced technology, the weather folks still can't forecast them accurately! They said Jose wasn't supposed to impact the US. They said Irma was first going down gulf coast, then very next day it was East Coast, then it was more toward West Coast straight down middle of Florida, then finally hovering more to the Gulf again, of course this prediction was less than 24 hours before it hit. I think I could have forecast it accurately by then! Just the nite before my local weather said it would hit Tampa Bay area as Cat 4, thankfully he was very wrong!!

Tell Jose to go away!! Let's hope it weakens more!

Forgot to mention, be absolutely sure the generator runs only outside! You don't want to be breathing any fumes! I hope your ok and getting the sleep you need. 80 degree indoor temp isn't bad. That's what I keep my home at! Every degree lower makes a huge difference in the energy bill.

Thank you for the update and so sorry you've had to go through all this after everything else, but thankful you and yours (including the furbabies) are all okay.

Glad you had a couple of Good Samaritans to help you out and I'm sure the good karma will come back to them.

I used to live in Marathon (keys) hopefully, they'll be let back in tomorrow.

Anyway, I too found some astonishing friends here when I was in an emergency situation about 8 months ago.  I couldn't believe the help I got and will never, never forget it!  I have since payed it forward and it feels pretty darn good.

Anyway, thanks for your posts... you're a human bean and a good one.  I know it will be hard, but as you said... makes you appreciate the little things... hang in.:)
