Ip address

If the IP Address changes suddenly, will it cause it to be suspended?

Re: Ip address

Mine changes daily, sometimes more if I lose my connection. It's been that way since I started here in 2003, and I'm still here.  First it was dial up, then satellite (which actually was static, but everyone on the same satellite had the same IP address so it looked like I was in VA) and now for the past dozen or so years I've had DSL. When we finally get real high speed (hopefully next summer thanks to our power company - I can't even fathom how fast 25 Mbps will be!)  I imagine my IP will be static at that time since it will be fiber.

So no, if your IP address changes that is not a reason in and of itself for a suspension.  If you are using a VPN, that could be a reason.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

Depends on what the new address is. eBay, like many other ecommerce sites, keeps a "blacklist" of known IP addresses that are used by criminals, scammers, pron merchants, etc., and automatically blocks any access from these addresses.

On another tack, if your IP changes because you use a VPN, you are likely to get the "capchta" thing every time you log on. eBay is likely to regularly lock you out (perhaps once a month at least) requiring you to contact support to get a password reset.

Beyond that, I'm not aware of any new wrinkle eBay has for alternate IP address users.

Re: Ip address

I get hit with a captcha to verify myself when I go to a different IP.

You can have a temp password texted to you if you need to sign in on say a public wifi connection. A few years ago I had to log in from several states away, I forget what for now.  It was no problem.

Re: Ip address

Tagging on:      I travel frequently and take my laptop with me to keep up with eBay.      I assume every Hotel

I've stayed in has had a different IP address.

No issues.

There are a variety of reasons on why your IP may change.  If you want to keep the same IP you generally have to pay extra for a "Static IP".  Generally your IP stays the same as long as you don't power cycle your modem, or lose internet connection.

Re: Ip address

@dilhanida_39

I agree with @southern*sweet*tea

I believe " If you are using a VPN, that could be a reason." is the source of the problem.

When using a VPN with eBay I have CAPTCHAs popping up when trying to sign in. I have also received notices from eBay warning me that my account was hacked (I believe determined by eBay related to VPN use).  I use VPN as little as possible with eBay and no longer get CAPTCHAs or eBay warning.

Tips for VPN use:

1. Only use a VPN with eBay if you are using a public WIFI (Hotel, Cafe, Library etc).

2. Only use VPN ip locations located in the USA (from my eBay seller experience I am not confident eBay's algorithms work correctly and will determine IPs outside the US are hackers and not you and could come to the conclusion your account needs to be suspended).  If you don't know your ip, a quick search for "where is my ip" will lead you to sites that will show your internet ip location.
