Invoice for shipping changes?

I had a buyer purchase a $1.99 item with free shipping after doing so the reached out and asked if they could receive it on Wednesday (one day from now). I informed them that I could cancel the order and change the shipping method on it to have it overnighted but couldn’t guarantee it would arrive when they need/want it by. I canceled the order and when it relisted the automatically repurchased it with out giving me time to change the shipping method. Any way to send an invoice for the change shipping before purchasing the label or should I cancel the order for a second time and hope I beat them to the clock?

Shipping over night is not a guarantee that it will be over night.

I never allow a buyer to change terms of a sale. 
If you were relisting before you let the sale go live you add cost of shipping to it not after you listed it.  
If the buyer already paid you cannot send an invoice.

Personally I wouldn’t entertain selling to this person…..I feel a disaster coming on.

There is no way to send an invoice from ebay.

 

I had a customer ask for this a few months back. They bought an item and then requested a faster shipping method. While it is not recommended (I am not recommending this but this is how I handled it this one time) the buyer sent a few dollars via paypal to cover the added expense from Ground Advantage to Priority.

 

I also want to mention that USPS failed to get the item there in time. Priority mail is not what it used to be. It took 4 days to get from Chicago to the Carolinas via Priority Mail, not two days or even three. Thankfully, the buyer didn't take it out on me. So be careful with promising faster shipments as they may not get there on time no matter how hard you try.

If you are going to do this (very bad idea!), be sure you charge enough for shipping that it covers both the actual shipping costs and the Final Value Fees you will be charged on that (very expensive) shipping. If you don't, at $1.99 and overnight shipping you will end up with a significant loss. (If you invoice them with PayPal afterward for the difference, you'd still have to pay the PP fees on it.)

 

Final value fees aside, for a $1.99 item, it is not worth all the grief you may have to deal with. Not even close.  An item sold at $1.99 with free 1oz letter mail postage will barely be profitable to begin with. Don't do it with overnight shipping. If that item doesn't get there overnight for whatever reason, or they file an INAD, you are guaranteed to have a big headache and possible $25+ loss on your hands.

Sounds like a 'drama buyer' for $1.99.

What would I do...block the buyer.

Why does anyone need an item for $1.99 the next day?

I agree with @fm2000 . It would be crazy to honor this type of request. It will cost around $25-$30 to send overnight and the ebay fees just on the shipping would be around $3.00 for your $1.99 sale. Your choices are to send it to them as shown in the listing  and let them know you can't send overnight, cancel the listing again (and risk defects) or send it overnight and lose money.

I'm in Nevada. Because of the time difference between the west and east coasts my PO has a cutoff time off 10 AM, especially if it goes east of the Mississippi. So my first response is:

 

I'm sorry but express mail is not available at this time.

 

If they insist then I follow up with

 

The additional postage will be around $40/00 (that usually ends it right there - followed by)

 

Unfortunately eBay's system for converting a standard ship to an expedited ship is so cumbersome that any transit time gained is more than offset by the delay in shipping.

I'm sorry this happened to you.  Hopefully you learned, this is not a good thing to do.  Buyers that need special handling should be contacting you BEFORE purchasing to see if you can comply.  But for an overnight shipment, I'd always say no.  That is a bigger problem just waiting to happen.
