Insufficient address - buyer wants a refund

I had a very weird problem today that I've never encountered before.  A buyer purchased a pair of leggings from me this past Saturday; I shipped them out Monday morning via first class mail to the address listed (I never alter the address because seller protection).  Then today (Wednesday) I received a fairly irate case from the buyer demanding a refund - said that it said it was an insufficient address but she called eBay and they told her that her address was just fine and the postal workers are lazy and don't want to deliver.

I replied to the case with the tracking number and sent her a message suggesting that she call her local post office as they should have it there; I gave her a description of the package so they could identify it.  I haven't heard anything since.  I don't want to lose this case - I did what I was supposed to, right?  And I'm not sure if it matters but I accept offers on that item and she at first made a fairly low offer so maybe that's why she's kinda already upset?  What should I do next?

I'm confused about your statement "said that it said it was an insufficient address".  Who said it was an insufficient address - the buyer? the post office?  If the buyer hasn't received it then how do they know it is insufficient?  You said there's a tracking number - does it show as delivered?  If so, you'll be covered.

If tracking does not show delivered but does show movement, you can call CS and ask for an extension; they can give you ten days,  AFAIK.  This should allow time for the package to be delivered.

She stated that she was told it's an insufficient address in the case notes so I looked at the tracking and it shows these steps in order:

-Arrived at post office

-Sorting complete

-Out for delivery

-Insufficient address

Weird, right?

I have seen that message when the buyer lives in an apartment complex and the unit number is missing.  I've also seen that when the buyer had the wrong city or zip code in the address.  The post office ships the package back to the sender for an insufficient address.

Did you verify the address you sent it to with her?

She may have left off an apartment number.

Did you google the address? and her name?

Unless the tracking shows delivery you will lose an INR case.

The buyer said she spoke to eBay and they confirmed her address was correct.  Also, it has a # in addition to the street number so if it is an apartment, the number is there.

eBay isn't the USPS.  While they say the address is correct, that means nothing.  It just means the address she put in was what they gave to you.  It doesn't mean it's a good address.

You need to verify with her that the address you put on the label is hers.

If it is indeed a postal error, they will reship it at no cost.

My mother worked for the post office for thirty some years and know for certain in case of an Insufficient address, the post office will return the package to the sender. I would contact eBay with the problem and ask for an extension because there will be a delay in delivery.

Contact the buyer and get the correct address and you can then send it back to her. There will be a cost to you for another shipping label but …..

OR the other option is to ask her to cancel the sale and just give her her money back

Either way you will get that package back.

The insufficient address issue is on her end so she can't claim an item not received.  You do not need to refund until you get your item back. She should check  her confirmed address with eBay.  When I've had packages come back due to an insufficient address the buyer could request that it be resent but they would have to pay postage.  If the package comes back  you would need to refund the buyer but you can deduct the shipping and fees. But I don't know how much that would be since it's a low priced item.
