Went to check my payment settings because a buyer said he was forced to make an instant payment. But, my settings should be that they don't have to pay right away.
HOWEVER, I can't find where that setting is... can anyone help?

In 'create listing' page - or when revising a listing - You will find it under Payment options (For BIN listings)

Recently eBay chose a group of buyers and when a seller accepts their offer, they are required to pay right away.
You don’t say if this was a Buy It Now or an offer situation. This group that eBay is testing with this immediate payment on offers, MAY also be required to pay for BIN purchases as well.

You have mostly (if not all) 'Buy It Now' items; unless the buyer clicks 'put in cart' , and instead click 'buy it now' they will have to pay now. If they put in cart, then can continue shopping with you and/or others and then pay later.
When an item is in someone's cart, it can still be bought by someone else and then that 'cart gatherer' loses out if you don't have more than 1.

If you click on a "Buy It Now" button, doesn't it make you "Confirm and Pay" before actually buying?

Not necessarily. It does if the Immediate Payment Required is set up. I sell BIN and I have buyers that don't pay immediately. I know that I will cancel on Day 5 if I haven't been paid by then.

this frequently happens to my buyers from all 4 of my sites even though I have NEVER required instant payment so buyers can get combined shipping. If payment has not been made yet I just write potential buyer that I am adding a make an offer which does not require instant payment. If they buy other items then I do combined shipping and reduce the shipping charge.

I don't require immediate payment, thus my posting this thread. Not sure why my buyer had to pay instantly, unless they were just confused?

Me, either. But lucky you! 😊
But see, I told them not to pay instantly because they had won a prior auction and wanted to add this record to their purchase and get combined s&h. So, I had to refund the over payment.
Don't even get me started about how ebay doesn't let a buyer "request total" if they are purchase multiple items that are on sale (discount)
