Did you mean:

If you're gonna take $20 why did you list it for $25.

Talking about taking offers. "Everybody" says

1 - 'don't do auctions, list it as a BIN at lowest price you'll take/be happy with.'

and 2 - 'most of your auctions sold for one bid. just do BINs'

We say to the first statement people - "If you started at the lowest price you'll take/be happy with, why then did you take an offer for less."

2nd statement - "At least I got the lowest price that I would be happy with."

As I said [really typed]  - If you're gonna take $20 why did you list it for $25.

Not everyone says that.

And not everyone who says that always says it to everyone.

I only say it when sellers complain that unacceptable number of auction winners do not pay.

I listed it for a fair price compared to other items, or at a price to make a profit I thought was fair for me.

When it gets discounted it's because there's no takers at my listing price and I'll take what I can get (or perhaps even cut my losses). I don't take just any lower offer, each one is reviewed and decided by me at the time of the offer. What offer I pass on today might be good in 6 months when no one buys the item.

If you're gonna take $20 why did you list it for $25.

Because I might get $25 for it.

Because I want $25. for my item, but if I get desperate, I might take $20.

Nobody makes the buyer pay more than they are willing to pay.

Buyer pays the shipping cost shown for the shipping service shown.

If it says $3 for 1st Class shipping, and it gets shipped 1st Class .................. then there is no issue.

make a profit, or should items be listed at COG plus expected expenses just to break even?

It's not unusual for a stamp dealer to put the catalogue value in the Description, even though the asking price is quite different.

And not everything is catalogued, unless you own a lot of catalogues.

I found one in DH's library on Newfoundland Liquor Tax Stamps.

And that's not the most esoteric he owns.

"Everybody" and "Nobody" sure do a lot of heavy lifting around here.  I wonder if I can get them to come over and help me move that hide-a-bed?
