If you Think There's Throttling with a Basic Store

Will it get Worse Downgrading to Starter Store?

Since I don't believe there is throttling I can't say - but with fewer items listed - you might see a reduction in sales - not because of throttling but all the fish in the sea that buyers have to choose from.

Re: If you Think There's Throttling with a Basic Store

For the 9 years I sold here, I had no store. On the 10th year I went to basic store for a year. They had a promo 5.95 mo with 1st month free or something like that.  Huge decline in sales.

I would rather have 3 selling id's than one basic store.  They'll shoot you more bonus free list offerwithout a store and if you retain your listings (90 days) you can go in and do minor modifications and ROTATE your stock and sell similar. I guess their assumption is; new sellers need a boost in listing capacity to encourage them toward a store.

Work the numbers.  Make common sense.. nope     Make ebay sense..yep.

I don't know what Ebay's rationale is because I have a nonstore ID and I never get more than the free 50 listings as well as this posting ID which again gets no promos except for Ebay bucks. I signed up for a store because my main seller ID wasn't getting any free listings.

Wish I knew how they pick and choose as I'd rather just have the 3 Ids and not the cost of a store.

Re: If you Think There's Throttling with a Basic Store

Sellers who think eBay is specifically throttling them probably need to look in the mirror because most "throttling" is self induced.

eBay gives priority to items they think are the most likely to sell based on a number of data points, they don't care which sellers makes a sale but they do care that a buyer who is looking for something to spend money on finds something to their liking and doesn't leave and take thier money with them.

To get the priority treatment you need items with high buyer demand at the best price and offering the best service.

Looking at your completed listings vs sold listings you don't appear to be "throttled", perhaps you have unrealistic expectations.

That is true.

Earlier today I was working on a new listing to put on.  A variation of an item already listed that is not in a category where variations are done.

I did a quick search to get an idea of the current listing/sold/unsold prices.

Seemed odd that the current listing did not come up in the search. Just 4 items active. Mine not there.

Added a bit to the title.  Solved that. It was self induced.
