@nuclearomen

Regarding your mention of :

Which brings me to the red highlighted part of your post...idk how many people have noticed, but ebay removed the mobile checker from listing tool, that little link that use to be on the top right of the description field now "Show All Options" then replaces with "Show HTML Code" check box. SO you cannot check mobil optimization of your description anymore. Can only list it then use cell phone or ebay app to see the listing on your mobile devise.

The new tool is a major nuisance to use if you accidentally have unpermitted html info or a buried web address(es) in your listing. A definite short coming of the new listing tool along with no built in spell check. You shouldn't need to take to a different tool to confirm/correct spelling. Throw in the lack of font sizes and a poor selection of text color including red which many sellers used for highlighting important information the new listing tool is a definite downgrade. These are points sellers made repeatedly as the new tool was being tested but fell on deaf ears.

@nuclearomen  Thanks. And yes, I noticed there's a lot of outdated and conflicting info out there on SEO. Also, saw the Mobile preview was gone. I can still get a mobile preview if I list (or revise) the item on my phone, but Mobile shows so little (other than photos) that it is hardly worth it LOL

I recall the "Mobile checker" function above the Description field and during that process eBay confirmed that their default text font & size were mobile friendly so I never change it, I just type a description.  I see too many listings where they junk up that space thinking they are doing some kind of brilliant sales brochure, including adding pics to that field.

I assume eBay has not changed their default text font & size to be UN mobile friendly ...

@lotzofuniquegoodies

the new tool is horrid, but their removal of mobil checker dumbfounds me...for a site who literally tells it's sellers to make sure their listings are mobile user friendly, who started all this site changes to be "universal" and then remove the mobile checker feature on listing tool is just....dumb, i don't get it at all! I type the HTML for the red font color (I only use it for item that have some damage, like corner ding). I simple put "NOTE" in red and then end the color tag. Font size and type is coded into the html. But I don't use metadata tags... and I should, but not totally certain of ebays HTML6 / CSS combo interface...the biggest issue is ebays mobile description...there are 3rd listing apps that code that description users see on mobile devices to be exactly what you want it to show/read....ebay messes that up and auto selects things from your description...and looks sounds horrid. Idk the metadata tags for that, searched and search and couldn't find the actual coding those apps use to change it, only found their tutorials how to add the info from their templates.

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques it's huge mess, ebay doesn't seem to be any interested in correcting all their mess either.

Re: If I clean my glasses will it improve my Item VISIBILITY?

@mr_lincoln @nuclearomen One reason I hesitate to do too much with the description section is the fact that the new listing tool is clearly designed to keep the description section simple. I think even the limited palette for font colors is designed to reduce the number of listings with anything but black text. My guess is ebay want more uniformity in the description section, partly because of mobile and partly because they want listings to look similar.

I guess one question that arises then is: when ebay's algo looks at "listing quality" to determine Best Match and PLS placement, is the description block a factor? Does a straightforward, black font, uniform size, text only description block prevail over one with multi colors, photos and videos, etc?

devon@ebay  Could you talk the question to the appropriate team?  I know search placement (and PLS) consider a host of factors....is this one of them?

their default text size is too large for mobile, I changed it to be "Universal" for both PC and mobile - trying to find that "happy medium"

Good point, I think it terms of what do I want to read on a small mobile device screen ... the KISS principal applies, various Fonts, text size and colors does nothing to enhance reading on a small screen.  People want the facts not the fluff and to me too much "fluff" means Sellers are trying to embellish an otherwise common item ... and as a Buyer, I'm dumb but I am NOT Stupid ...

I Buy a lot on internet online auctions and they use standard sized simple fonts and text in all areas of the actual listing, title, description, terms and conditions, etc.  Gee, they figured it out AND it is consistent from auction to auction.  all the fluff goes on the home page but once IN the active online auction things are simple and streamlined ...

Some Sellers think WOW, look what I created!!! Isn't it neat and beautiful while Buyers might see their description and think WOW what a junked up pile of garbage ... not to mention hard to read.

Hey @my-cottage-books-and-antiques! I will be sure to get this over to the correct team. If there is response back from them that I can share I will be sure to let you know.

@nuclearomen I should probably check one of my listings on a mobile device but I do not use the eBay app nor have intentions of using it.  I can try bringing one up on the browser ...

@mr_lincoln

Not sure which it is but sadly or unfortunately this has caused the majority all new listings going forward to look extremely bland. I do understand the masses of buyers shop on their phone. I still use a pc as do many others with bad eyes or arthritis. I would much rather have important info jump out at me then its on me if I order the wrong item. NOT the seller. The new standard is to add the bare minimum to the body of the listing and have everything else as some kind of item specific. As for 24 photos, at some point those become too many. Unless the searcher zooms in on each photo there is a very good chance they will miss anything they consider a flaws.

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques

The point about description block being a thing is interesting. But definitely not something sellers should have held against them.

Re: If I clean my glasses will it improve my Item VISIBILITY?

@lotzofuniquegoodies   I use a PC too ... I've spent too many years in business using PCs to look at and work on:

-Word docs

-Spreadsheets

-Creating PDFs

-Scanning Docs & Photos

-View large drawing files and using AutoCAD

NONE of those functions are easier (and some not even possible) on a mobile device ... which I still call a Cell Phone ... and yes, my first "cell phone" was one of those old Bag Phones where you stuck the magnetic based antenna on the roof of your car ... they were 3 Amp units, VERY powerful.

aside from those questions, some things need to be answered otherwise with listing tool and especially description portion. 1. being that of the mobile device checker that ebay has removed from the listing tool, which makes zero sense for a company that changed everything on the site to be "universal" and "mobile friendly". 2. HTML mode of the description, ebay has never given any info on this but many write their own html and that causes issue as most people don't do it correctly. Should html be written out as if create a web page, such as using the html and body tags with ebays interface? 3. suggestion i made some time ago was ebay should include fields sections for metadata within the description for SEO, description, keywords, and most importantly, ebay's mobile description which is horrid and instead of showing exactly what should be read, they instead auto select portions of sellers description and it's usually pretty bad. Some 3rd party listing apps have editors for their templates for this info that corrects ebays horrid mobile descriptions, why doesn't ebay?
