Idea for unpaid buyers

I've listed about 20 items this month and so far I've had to relist 4 because buyers never pay or even contact me back asking if they've changed their mind. 20% unpaid rate is a pretty pathetic and I have blocked buyers set up already.

How about a setting where sellers can specify in the listing how many days the buyer has to pay before it automatically cancels it? Hell, eBay loves fees so just charge for the feature. I'd love to be able to have it say "This listing requires payment within 2 days". That would be clear and concice to the buyer as it would be specified in the listing, and sellers get screwed less having to wait a week or more to close an unpaid case. I don't think this degrades the buyers experience either as eBay primarily focuses on the buyer and not sellers.

Before someone suggests "Require immediate payment" im talking specifically about auctions.

hy not use immediate payment required on your fixed listings.

It does not end until the buyer pays.

Because I want an auction style listing, not a fixed listing.

I understand but that is the risk you take with auctions.

80% or more listings are fixed price, immediate payment required.

Your call, of course.

Hopefully you have your blocks set up to block those with two or more unpaid item strikes.

Ebay has rules set up for payment, and already provides the means to cancel via the Unpaid Item Dispute.

Open an Unpaid Item dispute in 48 hrs, and then close it 96 hrs later.

Buyer gets a strike and you get your fees back.

Problem with auction listings is a person bids on day 1 a d by day 7 he has either already forgotten about the listing or is bidding on multiple ones and no lonnger wants yours.

But as another poster stated there is already a means to file non pay after 2 days and close 4 days later.

Idea for unpaid buyers

Hey guys thanks for the responses. I have my account setup to block bidders with unpaid item strikes and all that jazz, but I'm still having 20% of my listings ending in unpaid auctions.

I'm aware of the unpaid item case you can open, but I'm suggesting an alternative because theres definately a better system than whats currently available (maybe I posted this in the wrong subforum). Its silly to have to wait around for at least 6 days to never hear from someone. With that, it takes 3 weeks to sell an item (7 days for the original listing, 6 days for unpaid case, 7 days relisting). I'm moving in a month so I'm selling some stuff on eBay so having to wait 6 days isn't ideal.

If the standard was you have 2-3 days to pay, then people would be more proactive on paying. If you cant find a way to pay for something within a 3 day span, then you probably have bigger things to worry about than not getting an item. With this big sellers could also set it to like 30 days, but for small sellers could keep it short so they dont have to store their items for super long. To me this would be much more flexible across the board.

I used to add   payment was due within two days of confirmed purchase  in all of my listings ,, but I no longer do . Most of the stuff I sell isn't expensive  so buyers were usually sending payment  pretty promptly,, so I just started leaving it out  . However  currently  a buyer owes a very  small payment  on an auction that ended yesterday . I sent an invoice  but haven't heard  from them . Just going on past experience it's not a good sign especially when its such a small amount . Perhaps yours is not such a bad idea . Tulips

Actually I think that's a pretty good idea.........  it notifies the buyer before they bid when payment is expected and is optional for the seller if they don't want to use it.

Right now I don't think there is any suggestion to the buyer when they should pay......I know ebay sends the notices.........but this states it up front........

I think I would use the term "sale will be canceled", rather than item will be forfeited.

Doesn't hurt to suggest it.........

An auction ended yesterday and you sent an invoice? If this was not IPR, why invoice when it's been less than 48 hours? Or am I mistaking your post?

EBay gives buyers a minimum of six days to pay for an auction win, and that's really far too long in my opinion.  I like your idea.

Interesting idea, we like it too. On your duration a seller could set whatever timeframe works for them and their buyers. Whatever that setting is, 2 days or 32, it would all be spelled out by eBay on the sales page for everyone to see. No more stinking CYA notes! sunglasses

I don’t do auctions, primarily for the exact reason you’ve given ... buyers not paying. Until that changes, either by a method similar to yours, or another method that protects my payment requirements ... no auction listings for me.
