As a seller, it can be hit and miss whether buyers leave feedback for you - I find more often than not buyers don't leave any, despite having a good experience.
My idea is how about a system where if a buyer is invited to leave feedback and they don't, eBay (after a certain amount of time, let's say 60 days) automatically register a positive if there has been no return, and no reported problems with the transaction? Obviously without comment, but could just say "Automatic positive transaction"
What does everyone think?

Whether I agree or not, there are lots of great ideas floating around in here. From sellers who know.
eBay ignores all of them.

I think feedback should be displayed in two separate views. One as seller feedback, and one as buyer feedback so that feedback received as a buyer does not skew the %age.
As to auto. Nope. As others posted, the less than + transactions where I give the seller a pass, would get what they deserved, the less than + rating from me, rather than just letting it slide if eBay was going to give them an automatic gold star.

@onlinecentral wrote:Consider 100 recent selling transactions under the current system.
I would receive 30 feedback, on average.
One of those feedback would be a negative from a buyer who didn't contact me or file a case to give me a chance to replace or refund. They just decided to use the nuclear option and give me negative.
My feedback would be 96.7% based on 30 transactions. It should be 99% based on 100 transactions.
That's not what you said in the post to which I replied. I disagree with your suggestion in your Message #12.
I don't disagree with the suggestion you've made in your Message #15!
"It should be 99% based on 100 transactions."

Be careful what you wish for. A "leave feedback or we'll leave it for you" policy would be intrusive and coercive. Buyers would react by leaving neutrals and negs. That's how they always react when they're pestered about feeback. Leave them alone.
And, by the way, you cannot know whether your buyer had a good experience or not, and the absence of feeeback sometimes means they weren't altogether happy. Leave them alone and be glad for their golden silence.

Better idea.
Since feedback is a legacy from the 20th century internet when it was thrilling and scary to deal with strangers half the world away, instead of how we order toilet paper for delivery tomorrow, let's just drop all mention of feedback and let it die.
We have a good Resolution Center with the Money Back Guarantee to deal with problems.

I would still prefer to keep a feedback system around -- even a flawed one. Feedback at least that lets me identify scammers with no selling history. I would prefer to avoid giving my money to obvious scammers, even if eBay would eventually reimburse me or my credit card company using money taken out of sellers' fees.
Doing away with feedback entirely would be a boon to scammers at the expense of good sellers and all buyers.

I agree, although my problem with FB is that too many members use it instead of the Resolution Centre.
No matter how easy it is to make a Claim - for example, many sellers on this Board do not seem to know that eBay has automated Unpaid Item cancellations- there are still too many who lose fees or payments by going for feedback instead of a Claim.
And of course, with the exceptions of Auctions and Best Offers, sellers can't see feedback until the customer buys.

My opinion.
You are too concerned about feedback.
Don't think/worry about it.
It will come in time ... 10% to 25% of the time.

Dude sold a $500 item to me in March. Tracking number was bad - not even valid. Seller swears he sent the item - I have my doubts, but I lean towards believing him.
i didn’t give a neg - but no way I would want for him to get a positive. If feedback was automatic at the end of whatever window, I’d be sure to at least dong him with a neutral.
