Weird buyer name, a member of eBay 5-6 months ago, has no history and bought my item. Unusual?

Hi,

There is a buyer who's been a member of eBay since October of 2020, but has no records of purchases and zero reviews, who just recently bought an item from me. The purchaser's name is highly unusual, the ebay username is a variant or shortened version of the user's unusual name, I would say even memeish. The purchaser's name includes numbers in the first name and "joek" as the last name. Anyone been in this situation before?

I've been a long time seller on this platform and another. I sell to zero FB buyers all the time with never ever any issues. Everyone has to start somewhere, no one gets to open an account and suddenly have 25 FB scores. Nothing that you have written sounds strange in the slightest, nothing. I have friends who alter their name on the address because of Google searches showing too much info these days. Nothing unusual at all.  Try to remain positive that nothing is wrong here and all will be fine. Best of luck to you....

Just because someone came up with a weird name does not mean they are a scammer. If they pay, ship.

Sounds like it could be a guest account. Ebay generates a username for them automatically.

No red flags here.

A lack of feedback suggests nothing but that this is a new buyer, (or an old buyer with a new account, or a guest buyer).  Droves of new users have come to eBay to shop during the pandemic. We are glad they are here.

To ease your worry, in the 10+ years i have sold here, i have never encountered a fraudulent buyer. Fraud does happen, but as you have a higher feedback score, you are less of a target. Some categories attract more scammers than others, like gaming, computers, luxury items, smartphones and expensive electronics.

So it is good to be cautious, as there is a certain degree of risk in selling online that cannot be avoided. But it is not good to conduct business out of fear. I tend to give the buyer the benefit of the doubt, trusting my instincts, and don’t create worry over what might happen. In other words, don't anticipate problems with each transaction. Instead, deal with an issue if it occurs, and don’t borrow trouble in the meantime.

Come to the forum if you encounter a concern, like you did tonight. There are always folks here ready to help. So good luck and wish you much success.

Send it to whatever name (however weird it is) and address is on the ebay address label.  You're covered.  Don't worry about it.

"Memeish?"   Like "Come to my arms, my memeish boy! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"?

I've sold to people named cannibalmeat and babyhead - they've been fine lol.  It sounds like you have a guest name there.

I agree completely with the advice given already. Remember that eBay is the one who allowed them to set up their account with these names. So long as you ship to the buyer using exactly what is on the ship to page, you are covered. I understand your concern. Years ago, I had a buyer with an obviously false name; so, I called eBay to ask what to do. The rep said to do what everyone here is advising.

Why not send a message to the new buyer to try and start a little friendly conversation about the item that they bought? Welcome them and thank them instead of being suspect of them when they have done nothing wrong. Trust me, this will allay your fears and make a better experience for your buyer.

I've never seen a numerical figure in a legal name but nicknames yes....  Names have become more unique as the world has blended.  To that person your name probably sounds funny.  If you're really worried google it and see if it's a real person.

must be a scammer. I just found 1 today was looking at an item notice the seller had a feedback about how the seller scams good thing I reported her right away. I suggest cancel the item and let someone else buy it from you. (heavy signs) so many scammers on here lately.

This is the 2nd post of yours that I have read where you suggest a buyer is a scammer.

And in neither case is there any evidence of that.

May I respectfully suggest that you do a little more reading about how eBay works.
