I held a live break for cards through eBay, and a buyer got a bad team. Unfortunate but luck of the draw.
He immediately requests a refund upon receiving the cards.
I topload all of my cards and sleeve all cards. He automatically states that all cards were folded in half.
Somehow, I lose the battle and have to refund him.
Ebay DOES NOT care about their sellers, only about making money. I have pulled all listings off of Ebay and will be going elsewhere.
I will never sell on eBay again.

How does a live break work? Someone bids for the chance to later watch you open? How does that work in a listing?

please do not name shame a buyer here
whether or not buyer deserves it or not
I suggest you consider not listing "luck of the draw" card is that not gambling ?
if you want to engage in these type of listings else where I would make sure it is legal to do so
Otherwise you may find yourself in legal trouble and that would not be good
I am not Aa gambler but seems something that might be available in Vegas in a Casino
but I may be wrong
I will never sell on eBay again.

That’s nice that you run a charitable selling ID - that gives you some cred in criticizing eBay’s profit motive.
unfortunately, you sold something that is against eBay policy. You can’t really complain that you weren’t given seller protection.

That is a "chance" listing and not allowed on Ebay. IMO it is a total scam. How about instead just sell the cards after YOU open them.

This is from Bing search ==== A box break is a live-streamed event in which a breaker will open a case, box or even pack of collectible trading cards for individuals or groups of people. To buy into a break, "spots" are purchased at a specified price and each spot is randomly assigned a team (or whatever other list type is being used) in that break.

@doug_5857 ~ thanks. Knew the answer, was hoping the OP would reply with "how" that could work within a listing. Was essentially pointing it out, without calling him/her out. Other posters chose to go ahead and call it out. lol
Thank you for the post. Am surprised the OP has not had issues with these type(s) of things before now.

I did not mean my reply that way, my apologies - I usually will not call out another Seller - I might ask a question or 2 or respond with a reply that points it out, without calling it out. Sometimes a lot is left out of the posts on here. I learn something new on here every day. Usually on when packing and shipping, etc.
DS collected/collects Yu-gi-oh cards. There is a local comic book store nearby that you would draw lots (you paid an amount to draw) and they would break open a booster box at the comic book store. Based on your number, you could choose a set number of cards from those available or packs, etc. My bank account used to know this well as DS was on a quest for this blue eyes white dragon card. Needless to say, he never got one and we certainly never bought one. Doesn't keep a 13 year from trying every week though. He's in college now and we have so many Yu-gi-oh cards and figures and accessories and Dual Disks. I don't know what the odds are of getting what you desire, but probably pretty low percentage. And unless something has changed, not allowed on e-bay.
Good luck to you as a Seller/much success. If you have been selling 3 years, that is really good. Many, I imagine never make it past a year. Much harder job than it looks.

It must be on the same concept as a football pool or the such. I am very fortunate that I am not into those cards or comic books or porn. Good on DS for the investment. They will be worth good $$ in future. No worries on the call out. Its all good. I was also interested in the break and for some newbies. I thought i would shoot out the meaning saving alot of unmeaningful questions. but I will learn to just sit back and enjoy the entertainment at times. 🙂 Many happy Sales to you.

There's some information about how it works in the OP's listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/384085416563
Sometimes buyers call-out the team they want when they buy, but in this case, it sounds like teams were assigned at random to the buyers during the live-stream, just before the box-break (opening the box to reveal the contents). Each buyer receives the cards that are from "their" team. Basically, the buyers are hoping that they will get some valuable cards for less than the going price.
It sounds like one buyer didn't like the team he was assigned, and didn't want the cards he won.
As others have mentioned, these come under the Chance Listing policy, and the listing did indeed break the rules by calling out valuable items that "might" be included.
The policy used to explicitly state:
- "You must offer a full refund if the box doesn't contain the certain team or player the buyer purchased"
but that wording was removed when the policy was streamlined. It sounds like the practice of randomly-assigning teams was an attempt to do an end-run around the older policy that would have forced the seller to refund if there were no cards from a buyer's team.

On eBay, the buyer has all the power and can force a return or refund for any item if he is disappointed. So it is important to offer items that will not disappoint your buyers.
Offering an item that creates "winners" and "losers" means that every transaction will result in disappointed buyers. Simple common sense tells me that this item is a terrible fit for the eBay model and will be a magnet for disputes.
