Buy it now sells for two to three times more. Unless you have a super rare item with no sales to gauge value. Why do people even use auction format anymore? Well beyond huge inventory and need to sell fast...your losing a lot of money doing that...

Buy it now is the only way to list, if you know the value of your item...I've been beat many times using buy it now though. Had no idea what the value was and sold in minutes.
That certainly is the ugly side of using BIN...selling something for way less than it's worth. The tiniest little thing can be the difference between something worth $30 or $300. And if you don't know exactly what to look for, you could take a bath.
As for auctions, collectors in that field will examine your item closely and bid according. Even though you may not get full retail, you are still likely to get a fair price.

I use auctions on items that are popular or hard to come buy.
I also have a BIN feature on the auction as well for those who do not want to wait for a possible deal and as you say "want an item NOW!" But they will pay that premium price for it (and yes, that does happen from time to time.)
Many times a bid comes in and by the time it is all said & done, my item ends up selling for more than the BIN price!
Works for me!!!

You're not "taking a bath" you are getting what you asked which is enough to make a profit.
Take the money and move on.
