It pains me to quit eBay after selling on here for 20 plus years. But I don't like all the changes and all the complaints about them surely back up my decision to quit. I'll let everyone who is staying battle it out with the changes and also competing with China that charge less to sell something than I had to pay for shipping alone. Pitiful. So I just deleted all my items. Is there anything else I have to do to no longer be a seller .... but remain a buyer, maybe? Thanks.

"Since you can't "turn off" Managed Payments or disconnect your bank account, you're done."
Of course you can disconnect your checking account...by closing it.

Your selling account is your buying account if you have a single account.
There really is no difference.
If you stop selling, take down your listings, and close your Store (if you had one), that's it.
But the same account can still be used for buying.
And that "buying" account can be turned into a selling account simply by listing something to sell.

I sell books, usually sourced at thrifts or FOL sales, but I also sell books I bought new to read.
But once I have read them, in my mind the price has been used.
So my cost is now zero, and anything I make on them above shipping and fees is profit.
Sometimes it's in how you think about your costs.
And just like your buyers who would pay more rather than wait for the same thing cheaper from overseas, most buyers are like that.
It's called instant gratification.
And it's why eBay, which brands itself as an auction site, actually has less than 15% of its transacations as Auctions, while Fixed Price listings sell and sell and sell.
See it. Buy it. Get it.

...please don't delete your account...you might occasionally visit this place in future for buying something...
...every time I read a thread of closing out from an eBay's member, it saddened me...

Thanks to everyone for your advice. I refused to do managed payments and it was my last day before having to switch over so I did give it a lot of thought. So I deleted all my items, which was like pulling out a thorn with each delete because it hurt so much. Now that I know that I don't have to delete my account to just buy things I will not be deleting it. At least I will still feel a part of a community that I shared many years with and feel their pain for having to learn the new way, or for choosing to quit. I wish you all luck no matter which road you have chosen, and will say hi when I buy something from someone. Thanks again for your help getting me through this.

I used to quit selling here every summer - there's nothing you have to do, especially if you have no store. It's not a formal operation, you just pull any remaining listings. If you have any outstanding charges, you just pay those. I have a dormant selling account under another ID. I might revive it again, I might not.
You can still buy here using Paypal - that hasn't changed, so it's worthwhile keeping your account.

That's why I suggest you think on selling stuff the China sellers can't get. China sellers flooding the whole of ebay with their **bleep** and lying about item location in cases so they can appear in local searches should be banned! But sadly many buyers will pay for the cheap **bleep** every time. The only way around it is selling stuff they can't produce over there.

I had many things they didn't have. It was when we had like objects, such as a wig, etc. It was frustrating. But I don't have to worry about that anymore, cuz I'm done. It was just one of the many things that caused me to quit. I don't know why eBay let's them continue. They surely don't make much off of them and they discourage and frustrate buyers that could make them more money.

20 years on Ebay and have to ask about how to stop selling but yet you want to continue buying. OK, without all the drama you just stop listing items and you're done.

You do know there are literally millions of us who are not having any problems at all? For every 1 post you read complaining about managed payments, there are literally hundreds if not thousands of other sellers who have no complaints and no problems. If we can make it work, why can't you?
Whatever you do i wish you luck in the future. Stay safe.

Maybe at some later date you may find stuff you want to sell that doesn't compete with the Asian sellers. I respect how that can be extremely difficult.
Keep in mind that much about what you read on the threads about MP is being said my members that have never used MP. So it is a real mixed bag of assumptions and facts.
MP seems to be the hardest for micro and casual sellers [those without stores]. And the biggest complain by far is the delay in the money getting to your bank account. I respect why this can be very difficult for these sellers. Cash flow is everything. I get that.
I wish you well in whatever you decide to do.
