Hi guys,
I plan on selling a new computer Custom built on Ebay; hopefully for a premium. It's not used besides for installation of W10 and other things. But im concerned that when I sell to a buyer they will claim its "used". Or maybe a buyer will bend a pin and insist a refund. What would you guys suggest I do to prevent my self from being scammed by such things? I plan on creating a video tape of my product before I send it to prove that they're no chips or scrapes and that the product works as intended.

I would not sell it on eBay they will take 13% for eBay and PayPal will take 3% and shipping charges will be around $50 to ship you will get more money selling local or at creglist or letgo they don’t charge any fees to sell on there website

List it local pick up and only accept cash as payment.
Videos don't prove anything and can't prove the item in the video is the item you shipped.
Before I would sell something like that, I would start with cheaper items to get a feel how selling works here.

The thing with items like computers is that they are modular by nature. They contain many parts that could be swapped or simply swiped from the case. A crook would simply lie and claim SNAD.
Not all buyers are unscrupulous of course, but the ones that hunt down brand new sellers usually ARE. They're like car chop-shops for electronics.
I have an old FM radio that I'd love to sell. It'll have to sell some other way to keep it from coming back with the original tubes or parts changed or stolen. There is too much risk, especially with today's downgrade.
Good luck~

I would not sell that online ANYWHERE, not just eBay. Face-to-face, cash only.

^^ THIS! Good time to sell pretty soon with school starting. Craigslist or another free venue. College bulletin boards. Follow all safety rules and take somone with you when you meet if you're worried about security.

You can do local pickup only with cash on eBay, yes. As far as scam risks, there really aren't any aside from the possibility of counterfeit money, but the counterfeit detection pens with the UV light are fairly inexpensive these days and easily obtained.

Local pick-up is CASH only...no Paypal cause they can later state item not received...
Computers are sold on CL super fast...My son sold his in less than an hour...met at the local police dept. parking lot and everyone was happy..

You also do not appear to be selling thousand dollar items in a high-fraud category.
A new cusom built computer is not high fraud, especially when being sold by a newbie?
A new custom built computer is most certainly a high fraud item, especially when sold by a newbie. That's exactly the point I was making.
My post was a response to a different seller who was commenting about not running into fraud. I was commenting on the fact that he does not sell custom built computers, and perhaps that explains why he has not encountered fraud.

Do you have stats on the fraud percentage in custom built PC's? If not, how did you determine it was high?

Sell it on letgo or creglist and run a add in local news papper you can list It for free and no selling fees Except maybe shipping why sell it on eBay and pay eBay there cut and then PayPal when you do all the work let say your computer cost $600 for example eBay fees will be $90 and then PayPal $20 and shipping might cost $50

Where do you get your information about fees?
To the best of my knowledge, eBay's final value is 10% of the amount paid the seller by the buyer, including shipping. And Paypal's fee, again to the best of my knowledge, is 2.9% plus 30 cents.
So, for example, on that $600 computer with $50 shipping, the eBay final value fee will be $65. And Paypal's will be about $19.50 (I always round off that 2.9% plus 30 cents to abou 3%).
So, again, where do you get your information about fees?

@ten_o_nine wrote:And I will say this even if it upsets some sellers, my worst buyers are ebay sellers, I would try to avoid them but in a BIN you can't control that. As a matter of fact, if there was an option to block ebay sellers, I would check it in a heartbeat, just my own experience, yours may be better..
Since many of us use separate accounts for buying and selling, how can you tell who an ebay seller is or not?

I got a counterfeit $20 from the bank no less when I cashed my paycheck.
I bought two of those pens, one for me and one for my husband. He will not go to the cards shows without it. And I am not ashamed to take it out when I receive change from stores either.
