A while back I sold an iPhone 7 Plus for $300. Promptly I packaged it up and shipped it out. It was going to Miami Florida and I’m pretty sure it was at the final facility. It departed at 1:25 AM and was never seen again. The item is still “in transit arriving late” after about 2 months but it’s really just lost. I didn’t pay for insurance when shipping but when I pay for them to ship it and they lose it that’s on them. I have opened several cases online with no reply. I have called the postmaster and the post office with no help. Now I am out of the money in the phone all because of stinkin USPS. Help please! Tracking

I am very fond of Doral my friend, I have shipped many packages there! I can’t find the address I shipped it to anywhere but could that have something to do with it? Thanks!

I have not read all the replies and I am sure that this has been stated by most if not all-- You NEVER should have shipped a $300 phone with out PRIORITY MAIL and full insurance. USPS is not scamming you You failed to insure your buyers item so there is NOTHING they CAN or WILL do for you. Take this as a very expensive lesson NEVER SHIP HIGH VALUE ITEMS WITHOUT INSURANCE!

Yes, the USPS for Doral loads up the reshippers trailers with packages like yours, and long ago gave the reshippers their own USPS scanners, which the reshippers use to scan each package Delivered, saving the USPS from doing that work.
Sometimes the reshippers miss scanning some packages ... or all of them. The reshipper forwarded your iPhone to your buyer, and then your buyer took advantage of a missing scan due to this process optimization.
An additional wrinkle is the reshippers are so large, like my aunt Doral, that they have their own zipcode, but the shipping address is another location or the main office in a different zipcode, so the delivered zipcode shown in tracking often does not match the shipping zipcode.

I realize this won't make you feel any better, but I won't ship expensive or breakable items without insurance unless it's a restricted item. This is because I know that I can't afford to refund the buyer for these items should they get lost or damaged. The carriers have a list of items they won't insure. I use Shipsaver for insured parcels because they cover the shipping charges as well. For new users it's $1 per $100 total value. You have to decide what you are willing to lose when you ship uninsured. I couldn't cover $300 on any day. So you have to chase them down. I have had the post office send me pictures of an empty package that got lost but I still had to eat the refund to the buyer. Even when you do insure you need to make sure it isn't an excluded item or you are wasting money. This is a list of excluded items with Shipsaver.
Accounts, bills, currency, cash in transit, evidence of debt, checks, money orders, cash on delivery (COD) payments, coins (collectible coins are not excluded), securities and other negotiable papers, tickets, deeds, notes, gift cards, manuscripts, documents, neon items, hazardous material (per UPS Hazardous Materials List), LCD monitors or screens, televisions (including LCD, plasma, CRT, projection, and similar), perishable cargo or similar property, eggs, any stone or ceramic slabs, automobiles, motorcycles, live animals, flowers, plants, seeds, cigarettes/cigars, cotton, tobacco, windows, plate glass, stained glass, float glass.
If you ship excluded items you have pack carefully to make sure it won't break. I ship blown eggs and stained glass. I limit the number of purchases for these items in the event of damage since I know I'm on the hook for them. And buyers don't even have to submit proof of damage to open a SNAD claim.

To all the hecklers: Why not do your own research?
The freight forwarder signs for a truck load of packages all at one time and takes them away. He is supposed to scan them himself when he gets them to his warehouse. Of course, while going through them he or an employee might decide to keep one or two. Or three. Telling the buyer the item hasn't arrived and leaving the seller to think it hasn't as well. I've run into this several times.
If you call the 1-800 USPS number and ensure you speak to an agent, the agent can look to see where the package is. She can see that the freight forwarder actually signed for the package, but, and it is a huge but, it isn't signature confirmation that will work for PayPal or eBay for that matter. A while back, I had to fight tooth and nail with the freight forwarder to cough up the package. I gave the name of the signator which was the agent used for my customer to ship the packages. The customers were angry at the forwarder as well and they hounded him as well. He finally caved and "found" the packages.

Sure, but to me insurance serves another purpose... Should something happen that requires the insurance, that means one more 'investigative' team takes part in resolving the issue, granted they are generally only slightly more helpful than the CS but it's still one more team to have on your side should something happen.

I recently purchased about 600 pounds of machinist tools from a friend in NY. They were shipped in 10 separate Large Flat Rate USPS boxes. 3 were delivered here to TX in two days with clearly readable printed labels. Six boxes had been taped with clear packaging tape over the printed label and the labels were either unreadable or blank. Those six boxes were delayed a day or two in getting here, but did arrive. Apparently the glue in whatever tape he uses dissolved the ink on the labels, but the Post Office was able to scan another code and hand write the address with Magic Marker. The tenth box was lost for a few days but eventually returned to my friend in NY.
Not sure if the problem was bad printer ink or strong solvents on the tape. I hand print 100% of my labels with either a Sharpie marker or a Pilot G2 roller ball pen and tape them to my packages with Duck brand shipping tape. Never had even one problem with this.
If you have been taping over your printed labels and having any delivery problems, you might want to do an experiment with your tape and labels to check this out. Could be a real problem for your eBay shipments if it wipes out the tracking numbers or they can't be scanned.

OP, just wondering if you took the tracking info to USPS and insist they look at their tracking system which I understand has more info than what we can see online.
I recently shipped something to Ireland and the tracking still says "in transit", but the buyer messaged me to tell me how much she loves it.
I'd talk to the PO just to make sure in case your buyer really received it but is using the faulty online tracking to scam you.
Also think you should definitely file the "lost mail" report as well.
