I need help please USPS is scamming me

 A while back I sold an iPhone 7 Plus for $300.  Promptly I packaged it up and shipped it out.  It was going to Miami Florida and I’m pretty sure it was at the final facility. It departed at 1:25 AM and was never seen again. The item is still “in transit arriving late” after about 2 months but it’s really just lost.  I didn’t pay for insurance when shipping but when I pay for them to ship it and they lose it that’s on them. I have opened several cases online with no reply. I have called the postmaster and the post office with no help. Now I am out of the money in the phone all because of stinkin USPS. Help please! @thegardeningworld ,
Yes, very good advice. My carrier scans my packages right on my front porch.

Re: I need help please USPS is scamming me

Also another reason to get a receipt and every package scanned at the counter is because i had a package last week that weighed 1 ounce and printed my label online through ebay, a week goes by and ebay charges me another $1.20 extra saying the post office said my package actually weighed 9 ounces which was a total lie. Luckily i always make them scan each package and get a receipt and when you do that they actually weigh them on the scale in order to scan them in and the receipt showed it was 1 ounce so they are trying to scam people at every angle.Not to mention that was one package that was lost during the time they said it weighed 9 onces and charged me more so i told them how are you going to tell me it weighed 9 ounces and not 1 ounce when you cannot even find the package and they had no answer. They are scammers in anyway they can be and they know their employees are stealing but will not do anything. They used to catch them on video years back stealing mail and packages but they do not do that anymore as they do not want the bad publicity. Always make them scan them in and get a receipt even if you have 100 packages as i usually do each day. Oh and they gave me the 1.20 back because they could not produce the package to prove it weighed 9 ounces which it did not in the first place.

That is not only an absurd thing to say, it is frankly ignorant. How can you paint an entire workforce with such a broad stroke? Ridiculous!

Re: I need help please USPS is scamming me

Excellent! You have a great postlady or postman, most will tell you we do not have to scan them anymore as mine said which is why i make them do it at counter. These days you have to have proof of everything. We live in a world now of fraud, theft and lies. It is a sad thing anymore. It is bad enough to have a lot of scammers online but then to have the post office hurt you as well just makes most sellers, especially new ones just give up so always get proof of everything folks. Anyways to the one that lost the phone, i am sorry that happened to you. I hate losing just 10 bucks, 300 bucks would make me sick for a week or longer.

@thegardeningworld ,

We have different carriers on this route and they all carry scanners. I've never had to ask to have my packages scanned. I guess it will vary depending on the post office.

I wonder what would happen if you file for a package interception to be returned back to you. USPS charges at least 20 bux for that. But if the package does come back to you, it might be worth trying.

Re: I need help please USPS is scamming me

I've noticed a pattern.

When i have just a few packages, my mail carrier scans them with the portable scanner on my front porch.

When i have several packages, my mail carrier just throws all the packages in the truck and the get scanned at the post office.

Re: I need help please USPS is scamming me

I guess it depends on the post office rules. It doesn't matter how many packages I have they are always scanned.

I think about 3 years ago the rule changed here and all carriers were given scanners. My carrier back then told me they are required to scan all packages when picked up from the customer. I really like that rule.

That's not what I'm seeing for that tracking number at usps.com.  I see extensive tracking info, consistent with what the OP said: Last seen at a sorting facility in FL, latest update (mid-May) saying "in transit."  The page also says that it was shipped as a retail First Class package, so the issue of carrier pickup scans doesn't apply here.

@nobody*s_perfect ,

I copied and pasted what I saw from USPS.com so I don't know how you are seeing that. That's what was showing earlier this morning.

Re: I need help please USPS is scamming me

"No offense"?  OK, tell me that, if I stated the entire workforce of wherever you work is "scum" you would not be offended.  Saying "no offense" does not erase the fact that heck, yes it's offensive and was obviously meant to be.

And you have obliquely accused a large group of people of theft.

Shame on you.

Re: I need help please USPS is scamming me

At this point no one can help you.

 You   shipped this $300  purchase via First Class Package  but with no insurance for loss/damage.  Very  thrifty way to ship but you took the risk and  rolled the dice.  For a few $ more  you could have shipped it in a  Priority small flat rate box the comes with $50.00 insurance coverage &  faster estimated delivery times.  Of course, you would  have to pay for more insurance coverage - Ship Cover insurance would have been the least expensive.
