Nobody's Perfect posted the info above. It only works with list view, not gallery view.
There are other ways you can add items to your watch list without viewing the listing. Go to your saved searches ebay.com/feed and click on an item. You can add to your watch list from the pop-up without clicking through to the listing. You used to be able to add items to your watch list from some eBay e-mails but I don't know if you still can since they keep changing formats.
