I'm done

Anonymous
Not applicable

Sorry for the rant, but I've had enough. I've taken down all my auctions. I tried selling stuff since I'm in between jobs, but after 2 demands for refunds in as many days, it's just not worth wrapping, driving to the post office and settling for what little I can get after everyone takes their cut.

People don't seem to know what "no refunds" means. Old records have scratches. The post office sometimes handles packages poorly. Neither is my fault. I can't even leave negative feedback for the buyer.

From now on, anything I don't want or need gets thrown in the trash.

Goodbye and good luck.

Re: I'm done

Hmm, Unfortunately you said exactly what you must have been selling 😳 ( TRASH ) !! Now if your listings specifically said your items had DEFECTS then that may be a different story !! I don't know ?? But if I purchase a record I would expect it to play without skipping, etc !! You admitted to the SCRATCHING and one leads to the other. Better to just trash them rather than getting headaches of constant returns .

Buyers already know they can return items, but why does ebay encourage/entice buyers to return items? we as sellers accept returns but don't advertise it, go to your recent purchases and what do you see? A big box shouting "Return this Item", can we for example replace with "Leave Feedback" or "Rate item”? and see if that can result in less returns without discouraging buyers from shopping ebay?

I did as you suggested and I do not see any big box shouting return this item?  What I do see is a tab

  1.  to view order details and
  2.  a tab to leave feedback and
  3. a drop down box with a few more options but none of the options are to return this item

When I click on the view order details I see four tab options all equal in size

  1. Show shipping details
  2. leave feedback
  3. contact seller
  4. and return this item in this order.

Good Luck Selling!

Re: I'm done

Your record listings have nice pictures but are otherwise some of the worst record listings I've ever seen.

No Item Specifics, No condition details.

Your non-record listings are just as bad so it's no wonder you had return issues.

Re: I'm done

Exactly.  Not everything is suitable for purchase.  Too much of sratched records, ripped clothes, broken toys, dirty items.  They are snads waiting to happen and turn ebay in to a junk pile.

Isn't it just amazing how many different ways ebay can show the same thing (purchases) to different buyers?

I see, on every purchase in my history, RETURN THIS ITEM in a big blue box.  Kind of hard to miss.

How about donating it to a charity instead.  We are all ready buried underneath a mountain of landfills filled with trash that are polluting our land and water.  If something can be used by someone else it isn't trash.

You may be a victim of your own deeds. After saying that, we all are victims of our own lack of disclosure sometimes. You may have failed to describe an item correctly.

But, as a buyer, I always get that little voice in my head telling me to stay away from items that are not well described. Say I am a lover of collecting music records, reading a "it has scratches", or anything else, well, you can ask the seller of any condition, can you?

Basically, let's be clear here: Most buyers rely their buying experience on free returns= NADs. But, have they done their homework too? The "I thought that was a dark blue but I got a lighter blue, I thought the scratches weren't that deep or too long, short, visible, etc" should be questions done prior to buying.

Good luck to you. And Merry Christmas!

Yes, they should, but the first responsibility is the seller's to completely and accurately describe the item.  All the info a buyer needs should be in the listing.  If it isn't, buyers may just hit the back button because they shouldn' t have to ask questions.  It isn't their responsibility to create an accurate listing.

I understand you stay away from nebulous listings, but some may buy them knowing they are protected by the MBG and that if the item isn't what it is supposed to be, the return, if needed, is paid for by the seller.

The scratches may not be your fault, but your inadequate description is.

It is your job to describe the record completely and note how the scratches affect the sound quality. Simply putting "I'll let the pictures speak for themselves" is not an adequate description of a used record.

Pictures do not convey sound quality, and if you do not accurate describe the sound quality or use one of the generally accepted grading scales, then your buyers are justified in asking for refunds if the record does not play the way it looks like it should play in the pictures.

A Blue explained that they want buyers who want to return to be able to clearly see what to do.  That's why they changed it to returns.

The button for returns isn't going to entice a buyer who doesn't have a problem to return, if someone wants to return, they are going to be able to do that anyway.  Ebay isn't enticing anyone.  But knowing that button is there just might be inspiration to create completely accurate listings.

I agree, and that's my point, no need to advertise.

I see your point, but it isn't advertising, just making the button clear if that is what the buyer wants to do, IMO.

Re: I'm done

Let's cut the ball........

Ebay is not the river, and the river is not Ebay. Period!

Ebay should think about all those wasteful calls to the CS for a return that is pushed by them by not trying to deflate the desire of the buyer to return an item without any questions to the seller. Only buyers can see that wonderful "return" buttong placed up there, in the very top, instead of at the bottom.

If a buyer goes to ask a question to the seller after receiving an item, but prior to that he has been told by other people how they went to Macys or to Walmart, you name the outlet to return items without any questions asked, oh well.....they may push that button for returns because they may have already seen another cheaper item by clicking on that banner they placed under your item.

Ain't that cool? Smiley LOL

Re: I'm done

Sherry: morning. You are absolutely right. They started adding that button in May. I bought something (for the first time in years) from a boardie here. She shipped it, I got it in record time, we both gave positives. Done. Then on the purchase it had the HUGE return button. And I brought it up on this board that the boardie seller had a 30 day return window...why was that button there for 60 days. All that button does is put the idea in the buyer's head, like a subliminal message lolol.

It might be the difference in viewing from a mobile device or a home PC?  I only use a home PC for everything eBay.  It might also be app related as well?

HI Good. I only use a laptop. It has been there since early May...and NOT sooner because I bought the ebay supplies at the end of the 1st Q (March) and none of them had it.

Re: I'm done

Records are tough. After my brother died I drove what was left of his album collection home to Los Angeles from his place in Houston. I was not about to listen to the records, so I held them up and angled them and reported " minor scratch, side one, 8 o'clock position". The two out of 100 that had issues actually had no scratches but would not play on buyer's turntable without skipping (still have those somewhere around here). All you can to is describe as accurately as possible and hope in the long run you come out ahead.
