Wow, been an eBay seller forever and the fees are just insane. They charge final value fees on tax that is applied to the item! Crazy. Flipped a set of $925 gold clubs o paid $650 for and after fees $125 went to eBay. They made more than I did. It's OfferUp or bust now. Forget Feepay.

Yes they charge fvf's on the total transaction, and that includes sales tax for collecting and dispursing those taxes to the proper state.Would you rather do that yourself? I see you did free shipping on those golf clubs, must have been a pretty penny..are you counting shipping in those fees?

The sales tax issue was another nail in ebay coffin. No other site does that unless your selling on Amazon and what private party sells there? It's crazy how greedy eBay got over the years. I'm done.

Has nothing to do with being greedy, its the law..every major website with sales over a hundred thousand dollars has to collect those sales taxes now, including Etsy,Shopify.Amazon, and on and on.

You gave away the shipping cost, which was probably pretty hefty. You also apparently failed to check into eBay's fees before listing the clubs. But sure, blame eBay for your failures.

You could easily have determined the fees prior to listing the item and adjusted your price accordingly.
The fees are absurd given they put no more effort into your $950 item than they do a $9.50 item, but it is what it is.

That also is a red herring for the original fact their fees are insane and you know it. Not sure why you're shilling for them so hard?

The other sites I sell on charge a fee on the sales tax, so it's not just Ebay.
Pay Pal also charged you a fee on the sales tax.

Yes I expect their total sales and exposure have no comparison with Ebays. You get what you pay for..good luck there.

Yes, on OfferUp.
This is from their TOU page.
"OfferUp will collect applicable sales tax if we determine that we have a duty to collect sales tax in a given state. OfferUp maintains a list of the states where it collects sales tax. If you are in a state where OfferUp does not collect sales tax on your behalf, you are required to collect all applicable sales taxes for sales made through the OfferUp Services."
And be sure to read this too!
"OfferUp may need to report your earnings from OfferUp transactions to tax authorities if you hit certain thresholds of activity on our platform. If OfferUp determines that it is necessary to report your earnings, we will ask you for personal information, such as your social security number, in order to complete tax form 1099-K. If you do not provide this information when requested, we will instruct our Payment Provider to block payments to your bank account until we receive the necessary information."

If you want to call stating the facts 'shilling', thats fine..most ops, when learning the facts, resort to name calling.
