Did you mean:

I'm afraid that I'm being scammed...

I listed my brand new Samsung Galaxy S8 and it immediately sold on the 25th.  On the 27th before I could even get to the post office this buyer was messaging me at 8:25 am saying, "Please refund my money if your not going to ship my phone. Said I would have by october".

I shipped it that day and messaged them back saying,   "Hello, I'm sorry for the delay. I was out of town and did not have the phone with me when you purchased the phone. I just sent your tracking information via Paypal and the phone is scheduled to be there Friday, September 29th, with a signature confirmation. I would be more than happy to send you a photo of the receipt."

So today, I get this message, "It says the tracking number you provided via paypal is incorrect
Can you please ship me the correct one?
If I do not receive Friday I am disputing the charge via paypal. I need a cell phone"

So, I upload the receipt and message them back, saying, "This is the actual receipt. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you need anything else."

I'm worried they will get their money refunded AND get my brand new phone!  Thoughts??

What do I do?

Since you were smart and did it properly with tracking information AND more importantly signature confirmation, you will be protected under Paypal's seller protection so long as the payment cleared before you sent it.

Just make sure you keep an eye on the tracking information and see that it is delivered when it says it will be.

Nothing you can do until then.

Re: I'm afraid that I'm being scammed...

I would send them the tracking link from the USPS website.

I assume the package is insured.  Has the buyer left any feedback that would cause concern?

Re: I'm afraid that I'm being scammed...

First, did you verify that payment was for sure received & completed, in your Paypal account?

Second, did you look up the tracking number to verify yourself that the phone is in transit?

And third, I don't believe they can open an INR case this early, but if they can/do, all you have to do is simply enter the tracking number and you should be covered.

Re: I'm afraid that I'm being scammed...

Am I being sensitive or is this buyer making unreasonable demands?

The payment was received but since I'm not a very active seller the funds are on hold for Ten days. No, I have not tracked it myself. Unfortunately, I did not insure over the standard $100 that the USPS provides. Is that a potential problem? I packed the phone in it's original box inside another box with bubble wrap. No way that phone will be damaged.

As long as you used signature confirmation that is fine. But I would use the tracking information to keep a close eye on it and make sure it is delivered.

Two days does not seem like an unreasonable handling time, and if it's going to ship and arrive in only one day that sounds more than reasonable.

The buyer could just very impatient if he/she has no phone right now for whatever reason and it is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the one purchased from you.

No need to panic right now.

The buyer can file an INR with paypal now--and thats exactly what he said he'll do.

Not to be a Debbie Downer,

but how does great packing protect you if the USPS loses the package and you're forced to refund?

Re: I'm afraid that I'm being scammed...

I don't think you have anything to worry about as far as not shipping quickly enough. You CYA with the tracking and signature confirmation to prove delivery.

Worst that can happen now is the post office loses the package (which is highly unlikely) or the customer has buyer's remorse and wants a refund no matter what you do.

Re: I'm afraid that I'm being scammed...

I got to the part about selling a cell phone and knew the buyer is trying to scam.

OP, did you enter the tracking number onto the ebay transaction?  I ship at the counter and do not enter tracking on the transaction unless they ask and I get emails like you are getting all the time.

Once the phone is delivered, look forward to the empty box scam, the wrong item in the box scam, the it's broke scam, pick one and come on back when it happens.

Is the 10 days a new hold. I thought ebay / Paypal policy was 3 days after delivery is confirmed or up to 21 days if not? Never heard of 10 days.  You LOGGED into your Paypal account to see the money?

Lift your left leg at midnight to start off on the right foot. Happy new Year!
