I have the cheapest item but it's way down the list. Why?

Are you searching lowest price first?

There are many other things that go into the search algorithm, price is not the sole driver.

The default search is set to best match not lowest price.  If you want your item to show up first when you look at it, you can change the view to lowest price first.

Did you pay? ebay says some pay 100% to promote their item, meaning you have to donate it to ebay in order to sell it, and that's not guaranteed either.

I have an item that is in the top 10 overall of a broad search.

It keeps racking up views but no sales. I'm sure it gets views based on it's placement, then it gets placement based on views......
