I didn't sell, didn't list, but ebay sold something in my name!

A friend asked me to write, because his account has been suspended.

I didn't sell anything, but e-bay listed, and sold something for me. I didn't get the payment, but the buyer wants the money, and ebay closed the case inmediatley, so I had no chance to reply. But they want me to reply in the next days. They want me to pay , but I didn't sell anyhing!!! What can I do??????

In the future: Do not do business through emails. Go through your ebay account. "Your friend" needs to refrain from doing business through emails. If ebay needs to contact you they will contact you through your account. Double ditto for paypal.

I don't know, First came e-bay e-mail to change password, then came e-mail about selling, but a day after other mails about the item didn't arrive, and account suspended. But betveen open case by buyer, and suspended account was 20 min. So that's why we think something is not ok around the ebay. My only problem is, that tomorrow it will happen to me, or to others, and it will be not 20$, but more? I trusted e-bay till now, and bought many things, but if we call e-bay in the USA from the EU, it will cost more then 20$...

Really? Sounds like you got spoofed.

Ebay doesn't list things or sell things for you.

Phishers are becoming more and more sophisticated.
The other posters advice is what I strictly adhere to. Only do eBay business through eBay messaging system.

You can't blame eBay for your friend's account being hacked.

Chances are he fell for a phishing email or a keylogger on his computer.

I am not new to ebay and I do not  open any email I am not expecting.

And I was hacked 5 times on ebay.  A few years back ebay had a large vulnerability which gave scammers an opening to hack accounts.  Ebay was well aware and did nothing to close it.

That is why I now change my passwords monthly.

Re: I didn't sell, didn't list, but ebay sold something in my name!

You are not the first, or should I say your friend.

Many people have an eBay account they rarely use, never use. Use eBay, Amazon, etc. seldom, suspend or delete account. You can always go back.

Thats's the scammers target.

They send an email that looks like an official eBay email saying you need to verify your account information. They probably got your email address, address etc from a purchase or sale, your friend can guess which one it was and who.

You type your old password and new password into the email and they're in.

Change PayPal account to another account they set up with no restrictions in eBay.

You may even have verified your credit card info.

They then list items for an unbelievable low price, some I have noticed before, IRobot Roomba 780 for 199.99, listed for 499.95. Just introduced a couple of months before.

As the money rolls into the PayPal account, the money rolls back out into a bank account in another Country, like the Camans.

When I noticed it the sales were over 100, I was new to eBay but knew it was a scam but didn't know at the time how to report.

in another forum on robots someone reported they had bought one. The day after they got the eBay email about the item being delisted and they should not pay, if they had.....Started case for item not received.

They received their money back, probably from the original eBay account holder.

They say the they got a message that eBay was asked to step in by the seller and the

case was resolved in the buyers favor.

No business through email, and it is really not me, as you see my account is not suspended, and I didn't sell anything. Paypal even didn't try to take the money. So it is really interesting...

It seems the same. My friend new to ebay, and he had verification email, i think something you wrote about. And interesting, that ebay quickly close the case. Very quickly.

Can you get screenshots of the messages they got, and remove all the personal information such as name and address?
