I'd like some feedback on what just happened

Okay, so I sold a used phone for parts or not working on ebay. I stated that the phone came with scratches and that the mobile network was not working. Some bidder bought it around 2 weeks ago. Today he sends me a message saying he would like a 50% refund. He said the item was not as described and it was missing screws and that the phone was cracked inside etc. Obviously when I shipped the phone it was looking fine inside but aparrently he has a problem so I googled it and it seems there are some scammers who just look for money back while still keeping the item.

He also sent me 2 pictures, one which was so obviously fake, it was just my phone and he added a really bad photoshop of a crack on the bottom next  to the charger. I told him I would only accept a full refund and he would pay return shipping. He then said he wants 50% or he would leave negative feedback because he got something faulty. I then asked him to send me pictures of the inside of the phone so I could see what he's talking about but 10 minutes after that he cancelled the refund request, and left this message:

"I do not want to communicate with these fraudsters anymore. I will not fail because of the lost investment. But I do not want to buy any of them anymore."

I am now afraid he will open up a request from ebay and they will force the money out of my account.

What do you guys think of this?

eBay says: For parts or not working: An item that does not function as intended and is not fully operational. This includes items that are defective in ways that render them difficult to use, items that require service or repair, or items missing essential components. See the seller’s listing for full details.

(Hopefully info is still current.)

So imo you should be covered against SNAD.

Tell buyer that you listed it as parts and there will be no partial refund.

If he opens a case, call ebay and have it closed in your favor while you remain on the phone.

PORO does NOT protect sellers from SNAD returns, especially when a seller puts in the condition &  descripion "Phone works fine". The OP needs to read up on PORO claims. The OP has a chance to have the neg removed on grounds of negitive feedback extortion. One of the best examples of a SNAD claim on a PORO item is this:

I also wrote about SNAD claims (on this id) back in Nov 2016. You can find the post(s) by clicking on my name and searching for "SNAD" (without the quotes).

OP, I'd be more worried about the scam that will roll in on the $500 phone you sold a few days after...

It's not a phone, its a video card, but your point still is applicable.

I had a similar case, they made up some lie about the phones, I told them would have to return they refused as it would "cost them too much" because they were in the dominican republic

If I were to sell a phone to the DR, I'd expect no other result.

Some combinations just don't work.

Wasn't my choice unfortunately, as you know eBay forces you to ship to reshippers and other such forwarding services because they have US Addresses.

But if you block foreign PP payments, they couldn't pay for it and you wouldn't have to ship it.

The paypal account was registered in the United States oddly enough.

That is outdated info. eBay allows SNAD on not working, for parts only.

What the OP did wrong was itemize the defects.

The reality, though, is that eBay allows SNADs on all items.

OP, donate non-working items.  They're not worth selling.

100% CORRECT!!

When selling PORO items, its best not to describe what works (especially) or what doesn't work. Some even say to avoid adjectives all together. I would just say "Not Working, Parts or Repair Only" myself.

Hello guys thanks for answering, I have now recieved a bad feedback from this person claiming I am a scammer in the feedback. What do you suggest I do?

You could ignore it and move on.  Negative feedback no longer counts against a seller.  If you want, you could leave a reply to the neg something like - Sent bad photoshopped pics trying to get a refund.

OR you could report the buyer for feedback extortion to ebay and then call ebay CS and have them remove it.

What do you mean ignore it ?

Will future potential buyers ignore it ?  I know I wouldn't.

The Op should try and get the neg removed.

All negs count against a seller because they can affect future sales.

I said ignore because i was making a point about negs not counting.

And after havingdealt with calling CS, a lot of newbies don't like to deal with the frustration of trying to get them to do something.  Especiall when you get the ones that can't read English.

Partial refund scam bug and threatening you with negative feedback if you do not do as they wish. Bad move on buyers part. Get CS to look at that message.

Re: I'd like some feedback on what just happened

Negs do count though.

And I've no idea where you got the notion that a lot of newbies don't want the frustration of contacting CS.

Feedback extortion should always be reported, or the guilty buyers will keep doing it.

ebay is no longer counting negs against the seller account.  And if a seller has 50 positives that say great seller perfect merchandise, ect, ect, then one irrational neg screaming about how the seller is a scammer stands out as a fine example of the person leaving the neg being a pain in the patootie rather than the seller being scammy.

We see the frustration here all the time.  I'm sorry but 5 calls (the amount I had to use about a neg I got removed recently)  to get a CS that you can understand, let alone can read English (to read your report) is more than a newbie is going to deal with.  Most newbies don't know to ask for a feedback specialist, or that if they get a CS with an Asian accent to just hang up and call again.  Or to not believe CS when they say to wait a day or two for the change in feedback to happen.   The proces that ebay has set up in order to get CS to do anything is geared to get people to give up and go away.

I now believe that ebay has gotten so low that reporting a buyer for abuses will do nothing against the buyer unless the person reporting is willing to call and go through the irritation of dealing with CS to get their personal problem solved.

I have come to believe that as long as the buyer is making ebay lots of money by buying lots of stuff they will get for free through extortion, scamming and abuse, then ebay will make sure that there will be nothing to get in their way.  And only the repeatedly complaining seller will get any kind of justice.  But unless the buyer caused ebay to lose money, it is obvious to me that ebay will let them continue to extort, scam and abuse as they see fit.

So If you had an early 1900's Atwater Kent breadboard radio that doesn't work, you would just donate it or toss it out?

I know ebay doesn't count negs against a sellers account, but buyers do..

Don't try and put off members reporting feedback extortion just because it took you 5 calls to get  a neg removed.  I got a neg removed and it took me 5 seconds, not 5 calls.  Also, don't underestimate newbies. There is is some tough, smart, and determined people behind those new id's..
