I am done with eBay after 24 years.

The time has come where I have removed my listings and closed my shop. I had a buyer misuse returns, I had alerted eBay from day one she was. Received the return on the 8th (Sat), RECORDED me opening it on the 9th (Sunday), contacted eBay TUES the 11th, only to see the return complete on the 13th. Called CS again, they forwarded it to the care dept. I get a response in an hour, only to tell me I had to contact them within 2 business days and I didn't. Funny? I have the email in my inbox asking to rate "how did we do" on Feb 11th @ 3pm after I had called and spoke with Anna, who btw had a rooster crowing in the background. But they also suggested I have free returns on my listings as this will increase sales. UHHHHH, All my listings have this, including the one in question. (which just makes me feel like they are giving generic responses and not doing their job.)

The buyer returned the item damaged, put the earrings UNDER the cotton of the jewelry box, so they shifted around on the carboard, scratching the surface. One of the earrings was missing a battery. Both earrings were turned on to engage the led feature and the safety tabs were not included.

I reply back explaining that I did contact on the 11th and even rated my experience with the agent. Only for them to reply that I did not contact them.

I have pulled ALL my listings, I have closed my shop and will withdraw everything. I'm done. I've also rated them on BBB and filed a complaint about their service.

Ebay was never like this. I can't even say as a seller they are failing, they failed me as a buyer too. And in all my years, this is the 2nd time ever I have ever have a buyer misuse returns, but eBay is catering to their bad behavior as well. (Seller said it was XL, got it, the size was wrong, contacted seller, they said I should have asked for measurements prior to buying. -**bleep**?- Open return, seller closed it out. Call eBay and they said I should have called them as now there's nothing they could do. Huh? **bleep** if you ask me and I was out $150. (I don't know why it was bleeped. I didn't swear but maybe used acronyms?)

When I had expressed they would be charged a restock fee, as they had used the product, they became upset and said if I do, they would leave me a neg feedback, that is extortion, clear as day, and anytime I have encountered that, ebay pulled the review. This time? Nope. Leaving it but it won't count against me.

Also, this buyer has sold 400 items and doesn't have one review from a buyer, but you can see her feedback she left reviews for buyers.

Either way, I just hope it was worth it for them. I have 2K followers just on FB alone that I haven't made a post about this. My Dad and my oldest daughter will be pulling their shops as well. My following is growing on Bluesky, but am waiting till I hit 1K to make a post, which should be in a few days.

I imagine I am not the only seller they are mistreating and not doing their due diligence to research what has transpired on my account. eBay is on the fast track to crashing and burning. And if they are doing this to me, only a matter of time before it happens to you.

It makes me sad that this is how it ends after 24 years, but I simply can not support a company that is this terrible when it comes to support. (while this account says 16 years, I had another account I had used previously that was my buying turned into selling account, but created this one to keep them separate, but last several years I don't bother with the other account and solely use this one. Other account had at least 2k feedback. I will find that other account and pull it too.)

I'm also feeling I should reach out to my local news. As the BBB asked me if I am ok with being contacted by news media and I said Yes, this really needs to be brought attention to.

BYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Different people place the blame very differently when it comes to ebay problems.

When I have a problem customer on ebay I place the fault on the customer, not on ebay.  Ebay has to basically always side with the buyers, if it didn't then no one would shop on ebay because it would be scam seller central.

So you have sold 2000 pairs of those earrings on ebay over the years and had one bad experience.  Even being conservative in my estimates I figure you made $40,000 on them and will likely make another $40,000 off them in the future and most of those lost future ebay sales are not going to show up in increased sales on Amazon or etsy, they are just going to be lost.

I am actually surprised a Chinese factory hasn't copied your design yet and started selling it for $2 shipped.

I don’t get it. Is this a well-known seller? Highly unique items that draw people into eBay? I feel like I’ve missed part of the plot. Otherwise, is this just a spoof post?

I've spoken with her!

She doesn't work for eBay.

She works as an outsourced rep for a subcontractor.

The phone reps have a terrible reputation for getting you off the phone as soon as possible even if that means giving you the advice you want to hear instead of the advice you need to have.

Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service. Please be aware that for social media CS, you send them a Private Message and briefly explain what your problem or issue is. Feel free to leave your Name, address, phone number and/or your email address in this message. It is private and secure and it may help to speed up the response for you.

The social media Chat accounts are covered by trained eBay employees with some authority.
And you get a transcript so you can compare what you heard with what you were told.

It seems like a lot of drama for a $50 refund that is only the second in 24 years.

24 years and you have been burned a couple of times.  You have lived a charmed existence on eBay.

Been here 24 myself. I would be beaming with delight if I had only had such few issues.

Best wishes in your future endeavors, but as others, I just don't understand.

Yeahhhh... too bad you didnt come here earlier to get the advise from full time posters who sell a pittance here, brag that they are happy to be ebay sellers because they don't have to go to a REAL job on a snow day(how do you live?), complain sales suck when convenient, yet all the while TELLING YOU they got it in the bag and this place is paradise...

Likely the only truly helpful post here is from @albertabrightalberta - Good information the seller could use and likely is unaware of - Maybe even give him or her seconds thoughts on leaving - Nice Job!

I think you've acted in haste and cut off your nose to spite your face.

Hi,  I would like to respectfully suggest that you re-think this exit. You have likely put in a lot of time - sweat - blood & tears during your selling career at eBay.  I am sure that you stressed over many things over the years.  But, you were always able to ride it out - rising to the top once again.  It would seem a shame to me to just walk-away over one transaction gone sideways and a bit of mistreatment by eBay.  You are better than that & you have shown it.  IMHO Of-Course!  Good Luck!  (J.B. From N.J.)

Agree, that's the way it happened to me after 26 years here.  Let it be known that eBay doesn't always keep its word.  My explanation is too long to repeat here.  I had many good transactions and in person visits before (Mis)Managed Payments came along, but those days are gone.

If you are upset about one item, think about how stores like Amazon feel. All sellers here each have at least one transaction each year that costs them money and they write off as the cost of doing business. Don't let one buyer run you off eBay.

Absolutely nothing changed for me when it switched over to managed payments (and that was a changeover that was phased in over years). What exactly happened to you?

I completely agree. Having the expectation that eBay (now a publicly owned company) would remain the same as they did 20+ years ago, is like expecting your adult children to fit into their elementary school clothes. I too have been doing this for 26 yrs. EVERYTHING has changed, especially morals, ethics, honesty and greed. None of us are immune to these changes including eBay. The playing field has changed as well as the rules. Its up to us to adapt. Please take a few days off, and reconsider. 😉

I run around the house screaming for about 1 hour after a bad buyer experience, then remember all the good ones I have had in 20 years.
