98% of my items I buy on Amazon now. I still shop eBay, no longer sell.

Since the pandemic it has been hard to reach Amazon CS by phone too. I know someone that was unable to reach a live Amazon CS for several weeks and finally ended up having to go through their bank to recoup money they paid to Amazon for an order that Amazon canceled.
eBay will probably eventually end but it might not be for many more decades. Already, several platforms have come along where sellers can sell things so eBay is longer the only game in town but they are still one of the largest.
If sellers are not satisfied with eBay or even if they are very satisfied with eBay they might want to broaden their selling opportunities by selling on more platforms. This exposes their items to more potential buyers and might lead to more and faster sales on some of their items.

I started to buy on Amazon when my son showed me how easy it is.I use my wifes account we set up for some baby shower. My wife does not have prime like my son does.I still get free shipping it just takes a week.
costco makes a lot of its profit from the annual fee.Amazon makes a ton from prime that is underutilized.
ebay states that 75 percent of ebay items have free shipping.
ebay is the worlds largest auction sight and that works great for me

Ebay's customer support is all the way at the bottom of the help page. You need to request a callback - I did it twice this week. Once I waited 35 minutes and the other time 2 minutes.

There is no such thing as "Free Shipping"... discounts and even bigger discounts for Amazon, but the buyer pays for it.
It is interesting how many people prefer to pay $10 with free shipping for an item instead of $6 plus $4 shipping for the exact same thing.

I too will always continue to support the fabulous, trusted sellers I have used for years on ebay...never a problem!! But unfortunately the days of selling on ebay are over...I'm sorry for my buyers who for the most part, with the exception of an ever growing blocked bidders list, were simply the best.

So true about no such thing as free shipping!
Amazon has everyone fooled. I'm not an Amazon fan at all, but to get the suppose free shipping, don't you have to pay that annual membership fee? Something like $125+
timelessauto is correct on the higher price on Amazon compared to eBay.
People who pay that membership fee feel that they need to buy on that site to take advantage of free shipping and the money they put out for the annual membership.
It's a well played metal / psychological ploy along with analytics.

No, that is incorrect. You do not have to enroll in Amazon Prime to get no-extra-charge shipping.
"You receive free shipping if your order includes at least $25 of eligible items. Any item with "FREE Shipping" messaging on the product detail page that is fulfilled and shipped by Amazon is eligible and contributes to your free shipping order minimum."

This is so true.

It may "end eBay" for sellers with items that Amazon also sells, but I think you will find that Amazon does not eve sell most vintage collectibles, let alone have free shipping for them.

thank you
so there is still a catch on what you spend to get free shipping.

The reason *I* prefer ebay's $ONE PRICE FREE SHIPPING is exactly that.
One price, here's your total, no more games and thank you.
The price of shipping isn't hidden behind yet another mouse click and possibly one more series of hoops to jump through. The seller knows the shipping cost, why hide it from me, just give me the total please.
It's the same with those websites that won't give me a shipping cost until after I fill out all my information, forget it, I'm not about to invest myself and my time before I walk away... It's a ruse to me, get the buyer to do all this extra stuff and then when they see the final total they're less likely to back out since they're already invested 5-10 minutes into the ordeal, how about that?
So no... I do not "want to" click on a $6 item just to find out how much shipping will be, for one it's not always accurate... They will give me a figure, I go to order, then get to the payment page, only now will I know for SURE how much I am really paying, and it's almost always at least as much the item that offered me the free shipping total to begin with.
In other words, I could've ordered the $10 Free Shipping item and already been on my way, instead here I am still playing around with this $6+$4 order because it takes longer to get to the same end result.
Also, I have to "COMMIT" to the purchase of items that add the cost of shipping, once in my cart it's stuck there even if I don't want it anymore, I have to ask the buyer to cancel the order.
All these extra hoops I must jump through, they must not want my business.
Last but not least I can filter the results to show ONLY free shipping items, but not the other way around.
There's more but that's a really good start.
I hope this solves the mystery.
