Person makes only bid on item - then messages an offers of five bucks more if we sell it now and 'get it done' After explaining we - as far as we know can't add the $5 to that sale - We know we can end the auction and relist as fixed ... but also 'know' the guy not gonna 're-buy' it - Have done the above a few times and most 'buyers' never return.
We have done the 'ended early...sell...highest bidder' bit before and in this case we would add $5 to the shipping cost - most times they pay and If they don't at least we can ding them for wasting our time - .
What we don't know is if we can add a bin to an item with a bid - not that it matters in this case as the 'I'll pay $5 more' price is below the 30% over auction price bit. For future reference.
The only way we can think of to make this work is adding $5 to the shipping and ending early.
Any other way?
Thanks to any/all who reply ... with an answer we like [last part a joke]

OP
'Why are you using auction format for an item like that?'
In this case we just never changed it over to fixed - really should have done it a year ago if not earlier but it slipped thru the cracks. And truth be told, at this point in time ebay produces a drop in the bucket compared to the real store. For the last few years [ten?] it nets about the same money in a year as the store does in a month. The soda and gumball machines netted more last year then ebay.
'Item under $50 with low demand...'
We list a lot of odd one off stuff - In most cases, as ours will be the only one on ebay, we have no idea about demand until it's listed, so most everything is an auction at first - Who knew that dead battery or the Raytheon t-shirt would get bids and go for $50 plus before they were listed. The boss did mail order for years and would cringe every time he got 100 calls for one item minutes after the magazine came out, with the losing 99 offering double or more.
So most everything starts it's ebay life as an auction.
Things like HP inks and water filters - and last month the original first Jimmy Buffet LP [sold for $100] - are listed as fixed price because that stuff are all listed that way. I feel bad for the six fb guy who listed/sold his Buffet at FP for $29.99.
