How will you react to the following message below? Will you sell the item to this person? Will you block this person? Keep in mind that the watch that this person is talking about is $28.
"are you sure the (watch brand removed by me - poster) is 100'% authentic ? if so I'll take it but keep in mind I will be checking all of the numbers to confirm its authenticity as well as having my jeweler check it to. unfortunately there are a lot of fakes going around and I will be returning it and reporting the transaction if the watch isn't authentic. if things have been changed on it please just let me know , I may still purchase the watch anyway. thank you"
Thanks a lot for reading. Great afternoon/night!

A valid and true statement.
Correct and that is why the buyer is asking the OP is they are for sure it is authentic. The bigger problem is even if it is a fake China knockoff, the OP would still say it is real. I see no problem with someone wanting to ask before spending their hard-earned money. Many fakes out there, even on Ebay. It is unfortunate if you ask a question, you get blocked.
I agree with you.
I would not block just because of the question.
It's more the "tone" of that message that turns me off.
A simple "Before I buy it, is this watch authentic?" would have sufficed.

"It's more the "tone" of that message that turns me off."
You hit the nail on the head. And that's what got me thinking. In the past, people ask me to provide them with pictures of the actual movement, and I reply to their message with pictures.
In this case, this amazing person, is telling me that he is going to get all of the serial numbers check, like this watch was a high end watch. Thanks but no thanks. There are polite ways to ask questions, but this not one of them.

"This message sounds like a knowledgeable watch collector or dealer who has been burned by fakes and replacement parts in the past. But for that price your watch does not seem to be a collectible. "
I don't agree with your what you are saying. As want to be buyer doesn't know about watches. Timex watches don't have serial numbers, high end watches do have serial numbers. But not Timex.

Every person living in China?
Not every person for sure but China is a major problem in the world market when it comes to counterfeit goods

Since you listed it as pre-owned which means working, what's likely to happen is a person buys it without reading the listing (happens all the time) and returns it bc it doesn't work. You should definitely change it from pre-owned to parts and repair...
I sold an item listed for parts and repair last week, the description explained the issue in capitol letters (can't miss it right?). The first two people who bought it immediately requested to cancel because they read it after purchase, the next 2 buyers I messaged to ensure they read the listing and knew what the issue was, they didn't and asked to cancel. The 5th buyer responded they understood, read these forums there's several recent threads of similar issues.

As an unrelated note -
This is what the condition "Pre-owned" in your watch lots says:
"An item that has been used previously. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. "
Here is what your condition description says:
"NO RETURNS. NO RETURNS. NO RETURNS. SELLING FOR PARTS AS IS. Used. This Watches NEED Battery. Not Guarantee that they will work with a new battery. Need cleaning, New Bands or Other Parts. They are used and have scratches, signs of wear, have cracked faces.”
@joseh1445 wrote:Thanks a lot for your input. I hear what you are saying. And I stand up for what I am selling. Keep in mind that I have Free Shipping both ways. The buyer can just buy, and if he decide to return it. Just return it. That simple.
But in this case, the message that he send me, is just sending me messages not to sell to him. In my mind, this buyer spells trouble.
@angelno9 made an excellent point! So my question to you is why you think that having an inaccurate and contradictory listing is okay just because you have free shipping and free returns?
And why would you say ""NO RETURNS. NO RETURNS. NO RETURNS. SELLING FOR PARTS AS IS" if you have free returns?
Why in post # 6 do you claim to know it's "a real Timex, as I have sold a similar Timex before. Also, I change the batteries on them, which allows me to see the inside of the watch, as far as the machine use for this watch" yet the listing states, "Not Guarantee that they will work with a new battery?"
When I read the OP, I considered the potential buyer a PITA but after reading your listings, I've concluded that it's not the buyer who is the problem!

What you are referring is about is 1 of the bulk watches that I have for sale. We are not talking about the same watch, that I needed some input on. But thanks for the questions, and what you have pointed out.

The watch that I am selling is working. And I have Free Shipping both ways. What some one here suggested, about the no returns (message below), was taken out of context from another listing, we are not talking about the same watch. But a bulk of watches that I have for sale.
"I sold an item listed for parts and repair last week, the description explained the issue in capitol letters (can't miss it right?)."
I was having the same issue, about 1 year ago. The following change, drop my returns next to nothing. Put the following on your title, "SELLING FOR PARTS AS IS", when ever you are selling some thing for parts, also add it in the description. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

You currently have 21 listings that have ""SELLING FOR PARTS AS IS" in them.
Yet EVERY ONE of those listings are listed as pre-owned (meaning they work) and EVERY ONE of those listings are "free returns" (meaning they aren't as is)!!
You have some corrections to make if you don't want to continue to get questions like your OP describes.

Thanks for your suggestions. But like I said before, we are not talking about the watch that I was asking the questions. As I never divulge the actual item.
Some one here, just went to the first listing that he/she found, and run with it. Meaning that they started to look for the negative, which is some thing that a lot of people love to do.
Any way, thanks a lot for your time and have a great day!

Glad you found advice you could follow.
KC is what I suspected as the item. but who knows.
Not faked item mostly, in such price ranges.

Are you not reading the posts and understanding what I and others are trying to tell you?
Whether we know which listing the original buyer questioned, we've pointed out inconsistencies and contradictions in your listings.
Your listings in general encourage the type of questions this buyer is sending because of all the contradictory info in them. And it doesn't matter which listing it is!

Correct, but the OP is not going to do a thing. It is easier for a seller just to block and assume anyone who ask a question is a scammer.

As a buyer, this question to me is pointless anyway.
So I ask a seller ''are you genuine'' ''Is this a fake'' - the honest seller is going to take offense and block my a$$ and the dishonest seller is going to lie to me.
07-14-2022 03:26 PM
All this over a Timex? LOL, yeah I'd just block too.
