Is there a way to list a "main" article with the option to purchase accessories with it?
E.g. a pair of jeans, and optional a pair of socks and a pair of boots?
I'm aware I could work around it and list them as variants, like Jeans, Jeans + socks, Jeans + boots and Jeans + socks + boots, but that would meanlsiitng one item more than once, which isn't correct.
What I'd like is the buyer to be able to buy jeans and add socks and/or boots from the same listing. Am I missing soemthing or is that really not possible?

I am preparing a listing to sell a mountain bike, but would like to give buyers of the bicycle the option to purchase accessories such an upgraded saddle, carry-all rack, U-shackle, air pump etcetera, from the same listing. In this case however, buyers would have to buy the bike with the added bonus of being able to buy additional items; they could not just buy the accessories without the bike.
For those who just want the stripped bicycle, they should not have to pay for options/accessories that are included in the sale. However, if a buyer needs or wants something like a U-shackle or carry-all rack and are willing and able to pay for them, it would save them time and/or money having them mounted to the bicycle frame.
As a seller, it seems that I have but a few options...
- to sell the bike with the add-ons included and adjust the price to reflect the cost of the accessories.
- to sell a stripped down mountain bike and sell it for the market value of the bicycle only.
- to sell the bicycle and parts in separate listings.
However, nothing would beat a listing that had the bike as the main item and give the buyer of the bicycle the option to purchase additional items at a set price or with an "or best offer" feature; I call this "a la carte pricing."
If a la carte pricing was available, it would simplify selling by consolidating items being sold into one listing and would also benefit buyers because they would have the convenience of one-stop shopping in a single listing; no need to search around for items of interest to them. Consolidaded pricing may also make shipping and handling cheaper because some items may be packed and shipped together into one package, which would be best used with flat-rate shipping.
I can not tell sellers how to list items in an a la carte manner, but sure think it is a good idea; it makes sense and should be available to sellers and buyers.

Unfortunately ebay is an insular company, one where decisions regarding changes to listing formats, buying/selling options, tools, resources and other related issues are developed in a board room, away from the general ebay (Auction Web) community.
ebay would be wise to permit petitions to be gathered within the ebay community regarding a popular idea such as listing options (for sellers and buyers) and/or à la carte pricing. When a certain percentage (maybe two-thirds) of ebay users agree that the idea should be implemented, ebay would develop the idea and introduce it according to the wishes of the community; but sadly this is not an "option."
