How to list a laptop with two options (HDD or SSD) and close the listing after one option sells?

Hi all,

I'm selling my laptop and I want to give the buyer the option of the laptop having an HDD (hard disk drive)  or SSD (solid state drive). I know how to use variations but I need the listing to close after someone buys either option. I only have one laptop to sell. I've used variations and they don't work this way. Is there a way to do this?

Create 3 listings. One for the laptop with mentions of the ssd and an hdd listings if they are interested. Then create a listing for each hd. The buyer can choose their configuration by purchasing the components they need from the listings you have created. 

It does not qualify for the variation listing. If you list it as you first intended, a buyer could actually buy both. You would then need to provide 2 laptops, one with each HD. From the information you provided, it does not seem that you have 2 laptops.

What you are describing is NOT a variation listing.  There is such a thing as "personalization" , but it is only for buy it now listings in "some" categories:

If you used the outsources customer service reps you get with call back or chat, they are not quite knowledgeable.   Was computers>laptops NOT an acceptable category for "customization" or "personalization" ?
