I'm selling an ipad and have gotten much higher bids than expected (~$270 for an item which is about $330 new) and am worried about getting scammed. How can I ship it safely in these strange times? Can I do signature required on USPS? I know I can insure against the usps losing it, but how do I insure against a buyer claiming they didn't get it? thanks!

As far as the buyer claiming they didn't get it, the regular tracking and delivery confirmation that is included with your postage is enough to protect you against a fake "Item not received" claim. Signature Confirmation can be purchased when you purchase postage, but for seller protection it's only required for transactions over $750.

Since the listing doesn't say anything about a signature being required, you might end up with an upset buyer if they have to sign for it.
Getting a signature won't keep you from getting scammed, all it shows is someone signed for a package and they don't really care who signs for the package.

just to make sure I understand, if I send it usps priority mail, then I'm safe from an "Item not received" claim, and don't have to refund the payment -- is that correct? thanks!

You are protected against an "Item not received" claim if the tracking shows that the item was delivered. All USPS package postage automatically includes tracking at no additional cost. You should read up on the seller protection and buyer protection policies.
