How to handle problem with a buyer?

Hi All!

Wonder if this has ever happened to anyone?  Have a rare item for auction.  Few days before the auction was even finished, someone made an offer. Was too low. I countered. They accepted. Then ebay sent the confirmation. Now the buyer is telling me that she didn't realize she didn't have money and won't for 5 days.  What do I do since ebay says you have to accept. Even in this situation!?!  Hoping someone can help me. Thank you!!

Re: How to handle problem with a buyer?

At day 5 if the Buyer has not paid e-Bay should auto cancel, you get your fees back and re-listed for free.

Someone mentioned on the boards recently they thought it auto extended the timeline if an invoice is sent by the Seller.  Had not heard that.

If they do not pay, I would add them to your BBL (blocked buyers list).

Never understand why a Buyer makes an offer knowing fully well they have no monies to pay.  Maddening.

I don't think that it auto cancels unless you have set it up to do that.  It does say that ebay send you a reminder once it can be cancelled.

Re: How to handle problem with a buyer?

You're correct - if the Seller had e-bay auto handling their UPIs before, it would.  If manual, they need to implement at 5 day mark themselves.

Thx for pointing that out for clarity for OP.

"ebay sent the confirmation. Now the buyer is telling me that she didn't realize she didn't have money and won't for 5 days. "

If the buyer will have the money in 5 days, then she's asking for only a brief extension beyond the minimum time that a seller has to wait before they can cancel the transaction.  I agree that the buyer misbehaved, but I would give her a couple days extra to pay rather than lose the transaction entirely.

" ebay says you have to accept. Even in this situation!?"

What does eBay say you have to accept?

I've had the same thing happen recently, with a $15 item. I don't understand people sometimes.

Re: How to handle problem with a buyer?

I would probably give them the little extra time as suggested albeit begrudgingly..

There is a site, where I have shopped, that you must enter a payment source when you make the offer. If the seller accepts, your source is charged automatically..

I like that method a lot..

If e-bay would do this for Best Offer, I would use it more.  People make them and either retract or never pay if we accept.  Just a lot of work for nothing.

OP = go to your settings under "Account" for this to be sure you have it set up "manually" for you to do this if you decide to allow the Buyer some extra time.  (Next to your account name, upper left hand corner - click on the little black arrow)  At a tennis match or I would link it for you.  (someone kind will do it shortly, I am certain)
