I only have 6 next to my name but most people have hundreds. I came across someone today who only has 4 ratings but had 136 next to their name. How is this possible? And how do I get a higher number next to my name?

That’s their feedback rating and you need to buy and sell in order to increase the number.

Theoretically, you get one feedback for one buy/sell transaction, but not everyone will leave voluntary feedback so you may have eight transactions but only six people left feedback.
The feedback ratings roll away after a year, so if someone has (136) next to their name but only 4 current ratings, those 4 were recent transactions and the others don't show because those transactions were more than a year ago.
You can still see all of their feedback though, in their Feedback profile. Hope that makes sense.

to get a higher number you gotta sell stuff or buy stuff and whoever you bought from or sold to would need to leave feedback...and feedback is completely optional not required to be given by buyer or seller...
