I left feedback for a buyer on the mobile app and it doesn't provide an option to select which type of feedback to provide so my negative feedback is posted as positive for them. Is there a way to change this? And am I missing something in the mobile app to be able to leave negative feedback?

Sellers can only leave positive feedback for buyers, there are no other options

What? That seems ridiculous since buys can have neutral or negative feedback on their metrics. At least it looks like they could.

FYI:
Any misuse of feedback isn't allowed. Feedback comments should match the positive or negative rating that was given in both buyer and seller feedback. For example, a negative comment should not be left with a positive rating.

It does seem that you may be missing something. Sellers haven't been allowed to leave negative feedback for buyers for at least ten years, perhaps longer.
And that buyer can contact eBay and get the wording removed, but the green donut will stay.
Did you not cancel, using as the reason "buyer didn't pay"?

Contact CS and tell them you violated the feedback policy and would like to have the negative comment removed.
The positive will remain though.
The buyer can also report the feedback.

Wow... NO, you cannot leave a buyer negative feedback. Been that way for years. Feedback is for sellers to thank buyers for allowing them to feed their families and pay their bills.

Well they failed to pay so therefore they didn't allow me to feed my family and pay my bills 🙄

In future for NPB follow the procedure below, leaving a false postivie can only hurt you if it is reported, the ability to leave a negative for a buyer was removed in 2008.
If a buyer hasn’t paid within 4 days, on the 5th day you can go to your Seller Hub to cancel the transaction using the “Buyer hasn't paid” reason and this gives the buyer a strike and you can relist. In future to have eBay automatically cancel your transactions due to non-payment:
Go here: https://www.ebay.com/Cancel/Preference/UnpaidPurchase
Set your blanket blocks to 2 strikes in 12 months -

Then you are supposed to go to the order details and select to cancel because of non-payment. This will award a bad mark on the buyer's account. If they get two in twelve months it will prevent them from bidding or buying from sellers that have selected that option in the buyer management preferences.
In the meantime, all buyer IDs will have 100% positive feedback, be they good buyers, non-payers, or fraudulent claim crooks. Leaving a negative comment under the guise of the "green donut" will get you in trouble, not the non-payer.

@wholemealdropThe metrics show all 3 - Positive, Neutral, and Negative because ebay accounts can be used to sell as well as buy. So if they have only used their account to make purchases, only positives will be visible. You can click on "received as a seller", "left for others", and "received as a buyer" to sort the results.
