A buyer placed a bid on my item. Later, we got a message from them saying that they had purchased the item from another seller, and want out of the bid.
Do I simply end the item?
It looks as tough I can't cancel it until there is a completed sale. The auction does not end for a couple more days.
Thank you

The buyer can cancel the bid themselves. If they are unsure how to do it, they can contact CS.

Either the buyer can retract the bid or you can cancel it for him since there are more than 12 hours to go.
No need to cancel the listing.

You can ask the buyer to cancel their own bid; this will give hime a bid retraction that shows on his History. Ebay is ramping up attention to enforcing their Bid Retraction Policies.
Or you can cancel the bid yourself; no need to end the listing.
Sorry you lost a bid, OP, but you might get another before the listing ends.
Good Luck!
