I am somewhat new to the message boards but have been around Ebay for a while. I
list and sell mainly world coins and sometimes would like to have more than 12 pictures
of coins I sell as lots. I have noticed that there are some listings on Ebay that have 40 or more
pictures per listing. How is this done? I do also notice that these listings are frequently from
China and are multi-variation listings. Many examples of listings that exceed the 12 per listing
can be found in the minerals and gemstones categories. Is there a listing program that
does the photo interface? Any help would be appreciated.

On a single item listing, 12 pics.
On a variation listing, 12 pics per variation.

If you do end up putting extra pics in the description ... make sure that the description stays mobile friendly and that your photo links are https compliant.

Here's a good thread about embedding photos ..and the peeps over on the technical board and on the "Tools and Apps" Board are very helpful with HTML/CSS and that sort of thing

Hi, again Peng. I thought no matter if you put pix into the top portion of your listing or embedded pix into the description, max of 12 is free. Any more than 12 free, I thought it was like .35 (am from the old school so be patient lol), per additional pix? I have not bothered going to the ebay library lol.

It's 12 gallery pictures ... there only 12 slots to upload in the gallery, you can't have anymore than 12 per variation...for any price 🙂
You are thinking of some pretty old rules 🙂
Photos in the description are unlimited .... but .... the more external links to load photos, the longer it takes for your description to load (that goes for any html heavy description), the more chances for links to break ... and the listing becomes mobile-hostile instead of mobile-friendly.
56% of my sales were via mobile in December...my highest ever. I average between 40-50% monthly mobile buyers (PayPal sends this info every month).

So if I do the 12 in the top portion I guess that is what you call the Gallery? But then can add more imbedded into the description, no charge, right? I don't/won't do photos within the description because of your statement re: mobile, etc. Learned that one from shipscript. Plus if I wanted photos in both places, I would have to use my FTP Pairworks for the imbedding part...using my 3rd party I just do the ebay 12.

If you need more pics than 12, a little trick you can do is to take 2 or more shots of different parts of the item and put them all on one photo, simply by copy/pasting them onto a photo with a blank background. This especially comes in handy for small items such as coins. For example, in your case with coins, you could put both the obverse side and the reverse side of the coin on one photo, rather than using up two photos. Each time you do that, it would give you extra shots for your closeups or whatever.
I once did this with an antique knife where I got to my limit of 12 shots and needed one extra shot for a closeup of the makers mark. In the 12 shots I had already taken, one of them showed 1 side of the knife and another shot showed the other side. I transfixed both those shots onto one photo, which opened up the extra shot I needed for my closeup of the makers mark.

I use photoshop elements to place multiple pictures on one single layout then save it as a high resolution jpeg. That way I can still get multiple photos using the 12 alloted photos.
