How long until a return is closed?

I have 1 return that was opened over 5 weeks ago and 3 others that were opened over 4 weeks ago. I read the announcement that said buyers have 21 days but 4 and 5 weeks is more then 21 days...

How much time are buyers given to ship returned items?

When buyers are sent an eBay-generated return label, the return is closed if the label is not printed within 10 business days. If the buyer prints the label, we allow the return to remain open an additional 5 business days to ensure shipping scans are captured. When buyers are not sent an eBay-generated return label, we wait up to 35 business days before closing the return.

The 10 business days is now a pandemic-extended 21 business days for the buyer to print the return label.

And the additional 5 business days is now a pandemic-extended 15 business days after the label deadline to await pandemic-skipped scans.

In total, an abandoned return currently has 36 business days to automatically close.

Yea. As mentioned don’t count on them closing automatically. I had to contact ebay to “automatically” close them since it was 40+ business days... which in actuality is me requesting they close it out manually. They finally did.

So now I have to contact them about the 3rd one that recently passed 36 and also didn’t automatically close. We’ll see what they respond with. Has anyone had any return close out automatically yet after this seller update got implemented?

Here is how the announcement reads in part:

Temporary Returns and eBay Money Back Guarantee policy changes

• Buyers—We have increased the number of business days buyers have to ship a return back to you to 21 business days, starting the moment you accept a return request and the buyer receives a return label.
• Sellers—We have increased the number of business days you have to issue a refund to 5 business days, starting on the date that shipment tracking confirms the item was delivered back to you.

That isn't in addition to what the policy already offers, but INSTEAD OF or in addition to.
