@simply-the-best-for-you, for most users, the date shown here on the community boards doesn't match, because that shows the first time you interacted on the community boards, not the date you registered on eBay. These dates are often different. IIRC, there wasn't a community board yet, when you registered for eBay.

A lot of posts were lost during one of the board change-overs, and a lot of long-time users lost credit for a lot of posts they had made. That was never corrected either. I think you might be remembering that.

@lacemaker3  Interesting I didn't remember anything about the 2014 situation, but I never had my acct closed, but that def sounds like what OP's situation may have been.

Regarding mine, Oh I'm well aware of all the lost info & broken promises about ability to access.   BUT, at one time, my date was correct & then with one of the board changes, it lost several years.  It happened to a bunch of us, not just me, we were all talking about it back then.  You are correct that there were no boards when I joined eBay.  Here's my theory, but it's so long ago, I can't possibly know if it's true.  I suspect that when eBay started the boards, the date was the date you joined eBay.  That would make sense since eBay was running the board show.  I suspect that when one of the other co's took over, they chose a different date?  It WAS around the time when all that data was lost.  Still, if the co that took over chose a date, you'd think it was the date that that co took over & everyone's dates were different & most of ours were only a couple of years off our real dates.  But many of us had dates that were correct at one time & then got changed on us at the time all that data was lost.  Probably @chapeau-noir  & @albertabrightalberta  remember it.  A lot of us on the old Fashion boards were affected & a lot of had a bunch of our posts lost.

That probably explains why I was not asked. Been using the same password since 2004.

You might want to check here, just to be safe.

https://haveibeenpwned.com/

Edit: That is a general check, not specific to eBay. It checks to see whether your password has been used anywhere else and has been published (exposed). It may not have been exposed on your account, but if it has been published (because someone else used it), then it's a lot easier to "guess".

Most everyone's passwords are in various databases on the internet due to so many data breaches.  I know you probably know that.  If I changed all my PW's every time one was on one of those lists, I'd probably be changing them all, every single day.  I'm not saying it isn't a good practice, I'm saying most of us mere mortals don't have that kind of time LOL.  There are password managers now that can really help.  Been thinking about getting one as you'd practically have to be superhuman to manage it all yourself.

The problem is, the hackers use those published lists as a brute-force method to break in. They try all of them, one after the other. Eventually, one of them works. So it's not a good idea to use any password that is on any of the lists. It makes it easy for them to hack you.

The best recommendation I know; is that you should check to see if you have been pwned, never use a password that has been pwned, and also use a password manager.

My first purchase was a Furby in 1997, If I recall correctly.

I had an account from way back but it was on an old AOL email that I let go.

So my current accounts are 2004 & 2007 I think.

96 for me & besides a scanner, I remember borrowing a digital camera from the library to take pics.  OMG, the whole process was SO SLOW!
