How long does a buyer have to send an item back? I accepted a return and had ebay send a return shipping label. The system says the buyer has not sent the item back yet. Been over a week now.

You have to contact ebay to get it closed. Click the help and contact link at bottom of page. It's not uncommon for buyers to never get around to sending items back.

Starting November 10th, 2020, the temporary change we introduced to help buyers process returns will become permanent, so the time frame for a buyer to ship a return will be 10 business days.

A buyer has many days to do nothing...we were all having fun on the board a few months back s trying to figure out the extended timelines,many agreed on about 56 days total. ebay made a big deal a few months back about no longer closing them early...............they said not to call a CSR anymore because the policy had changed.

If your money is being held up at paypal thats a pain but there is little you can do nowadays to get it closed sooner

It is around 10 days now. It will tell you in the return details. If they don't mail it by that day call ebay and they will close case and it is no longer their problem.

Buyers like to send things back on the very last day.

Buyers have

- 10 business days to mail the return label, then

- 5 additional business days to see if the return label got a scan.

- 2 business days for the seller to refund after delivery, or eBay forces a refund.

Changes to handling return requests that appear abandoned
Starting April 1, 2020, we will no longer close returns early at the request of a seller when the buyer has not shipped the item back. Instead, we will wait to ensure buyers have sufficient time to provide proof items they requested to return were shipped back.
