Just saw I had a buyer with 100% (over 100 feed back left) of his feed back being negs asking for returns
How do I properly cancel the order when people like this try to buy from me

Hmm, your feedback replies have such a negative tone it is predictable which way your selling career is headed. It was a rip that you got a neutral with a positive comment.
Jim Morrison sang it well. "People are strange when you're a stranger..."

Ignoring the directions and doing something as moronic as putting a rose stem in a potato then asking for money deserves much worse treatment

Putting a rose stem in a potato
I don't even know where to start with the questions I have

@native_plant_shop I noticed some of your responses are a bit negative towards some buyers. As a buyer myself, that would throw me off buying from you (Nothing personal)
Keep in mind if you cancel an order, people can still leave negative feedback.

Getting angry at people that you do business with, will not solve the problem. If the buyer don't follow directions, is some thing that I am very aware about.
The way that I change my selling practice, was to increase my prices. I rather sale 1 item at $20, than 4 at $5, to generate $20. In my humble opinion, when you sell stuff at the low end, you attract low end buyers, that expect too much.
Maybe is time that you change how you do business. Don't get angry, look for solutions.

The same way you cancel for any other reason, out-of-stock.
A seller initiated cancellation can carry a defect penalty. Selecting “problem with address” avoids the defect, but can get a seller in hot water with eBay should the buyer complain it was false. It would then also reflect badly on a seller’s reputation if that reason was chosen dishonestly.
Because of the fact seller-initiated cancellations can adversely affect the buying experience as well as penalize the seller’s metrics, it is usually smarter to determine one’s risk tolerance prior to listing the item. Using cancellations as a risk avoidance method doesn't work well here because it has the strong potential of downgrading one’s standing on eBay.

They should probably say that on the page or at least somewhere that appears on google

When you sign up to sell here, you agree to the eBay selling policies..
You really should read them.. They do cover defects..

It's as stupid as it sounds.
They ignored the directions and put a rose stem in a potato then planted it . (I'm the only person in the world to figure out how to grow this specific species of rose) then they asked for a refund three months after it rotted in the potato "YouTube told me to put it in a potato and that should of worked but your cuttings must be defective! I've grown plants from cuttings before so I know what I'm talking about"

you sound like a tuff seller who ran into a tuff buyer
canceling sales because you are timid is not the way to go about it
the cancel button shoud be used as littile as possible.unless you are the new breed of seller it makes no sense to cancel.

"(I'm the only person in the world to figure out how to grow this specific species of rose)"
Well, that is impressive. I assisted one of the original code writers in developing the 1995 ebay software, yet I don't go on message boards and boast about how I retired when I was 39 years old.

Im going to be civil but that made me laugh.
Look @native_plant_shop at the end of the day, if the buyer opened a INAD case on you and gave you a red doughnut, the best you can do is block the buyer and ask ebay to remove the feedback. Worst case, you say something like this
"Hello Buyer, I am sorry to see you were not satisfied with your purchase, please let me know if there is anything I can do to make it better"
That is the best way to respond to that feedback and others. The buyer did not specify in the neutral feedback what happened and when you posted your reply, it was initially very confusing. They only said: "I appreciate the sender for selling native plants/cuttings" nothing about a potato lol.
For the future I would work on being a little nicer to your customers. Besides, they can read the form posts here, its public.

But not if it is going to impact on your sales because other buyers check feedback

Especially when the reviewer never said anything about that lol. It's going to confuse a lot of buyers reading the feedback
