How do you enter a number for first class?

Can't enter a tracking number for first class; how do I show item was shipped?  Do I have to buy a tracking number when I ship first class to prove I shipped the item?

How do you enter a number for first class?

If you shipped it in a white envelope you just mark it shipped, and go on with life.

If you shipped it as a first class package it should have come with a tracking number.

Which did you do?

If you shipped it as a First Class package, then it will have a tracking number. If you mailed it as a First Class letter or flat (AKA Large envelope) then there is no tracking number to enter. USPS doesn't offer tracking for those services, even if you purchase postage at the PO counter.

If your listing states "USPS First Class Package®" then you should mail it that way.

If you sent (a brochure) first-class in a stamped envelope, you just mark it shipped in your account; tracking is not mandatory, but without it, you cannot prove it was shipped if problems arise.

Far as I know there is no way to mark it first class in the shipping.  It shows as First Class Package even if you are shipping in envelopes and put letter in the 'package' box.

That's true; eBay will show "First Class package" in the shipping section of the listing and a buyer might assume they'll get a tracked package.  So a seller who intends to mail as a letter or flat might do better to choose flat rate shipping so they can choose generic "Standard shipping" in the menu for Service.

Only reason I knew is cause of my bracelets....

So I list it in the description.... "These ship in little white envelopes with no tracking ... "

I used a first class envelope.  I like your comment, "go on with life."  Thank you.

You can't enter a tracking number for your shipment unless you have a tracking number for your shipment.

Since first class envelopes do not have tracking numbers, the best you can do it manually mark the item as shipped and hope the buyer does not file an "item not received dispute" (because you will lose andbe forced to refund).
