I accepted an offer and the buyer is yet to pay. I messaged them to ask if they were still interested, but they replied back with a phone number and saying "TEXT ME IM IN A MEETING." Safe to say I'm pretty sure they're a scammer. I'm not about to bring transactions out of app. Question is, how to I cancel the order without getting some sort of notation on my account? Do I just wait for them not to pay in four days? Will their order be auto-cancelled after that period?
I only started selling a few days ago, so thanks for any guidance you all can provide :')

99.9% chance it is a scam. Don't text. Don't send 'Gift Cards'.

You can report the Buyer and notate you think this is a scam and they are trying to get you to communicate/finalize off of e-Bay.
It is a scam. If it were me, I would BBL and let it time out in 4 days so the scam ID gets a strike.
Unfortunately, they will just ditch this ID, grow 2 new horns and set up another ID to try and scam again.

"Do I just wait for them not to pay in four days?"
Yes, just wait. Don't respond to those questionable messages.
"Will their order be auto-cancelled after that period?"
IIRC, the new system is set up to do that by default. If it doesn't, then go ahead and initiate it.

You don't seem to have the high value items that scammers immediately go for, but, being a new seller, you are a prime target and it may be for information that they would run a scam.
There is never a need to text.

Wait the nonpayment out and now it is automated and eBay will credit your FVF and give strike to non payer
Yes 99.9999% a scam

@eggieyu To answer your question, your best option is to let this time out for non payment. Stop messaging the buyer and it will auto cancel in four days from transaction ending date.
The only way to cancel without a demerit is to cancel because buyer requested- which they have not, and problem with buyer's address- which is also incorrect. If you cancel for either of those reasons and are actually mistaken about a scam (people do pay late and people are in meetings), then buyer can leave you negative feedback in retribution. Easiest is to wait for this to auto cancel. Best of luck to you....

@coastaltechsolution
The OP is in Managed Payments. I don't think there will be a final value fee assessment charged unless the 'buyer' (aka text me scammer) pays. A text me scammer that actually pays, not just sends a phony payment notification, would be a real first around here.
@eggieyu
As others have suggested, you can wait the 4 days for the 'cancel for non-payment' option to appear. This procedure replaces the old 'Unpaid Item Dispute'.
You should report the buyer anyway NOW for trying to take the transaction off eBay. There is a chance the ID will get the axe BEFORE the four days are up, and you can relist at that time.

Make sure it is really the buyer. Sometimes a completely different person will email eBay sellers and try to trick them into sending the items somewhere else (always an address in Delaware forwarding to the Republic of Georgia)
