How do we list items now without UPC code?

I have a Calvin Klein clothing item I am trying to list, the first 2 numbers of the UPC code are missing. There was a sticker on it and I had to pull it off, damaging the UPC code. I tried to list "does not apply", and got a message saying "CK articals should have supplied UPC codes". Is there another way?

Thank you!

the first half of the UPC code is usually the manufacturer.  if the remaining numerals of the first half are the same as the UPC code for other  Calvin Klein products in that line, then you can probably use the same digits.   You could Google them first to check.

Some CK items I have start with 1, 7, & 8. What if the tag is missing?  I googled it but couldn't find it, who has this kind of time.  Ebay told me to call them and they will get it for me, I said I can't spend an hour with you on the phone every time I need a UPC code. I guess the rule is never call ebay.

The first 6 numbers of a upc code are the brand name.  Thiss does not mean that abrand name can not buy more than one UPC master code but it is not really needed.  The next few number is usually coded as a department or category of items.  Then the remaining numbers usually are coded as the item stock number.

  • You can google CK master upc number.
  • you can find it on another CK item
  • You can search on eBay for your exact item with very refined keywords and see what upc number other sellers are using
  • You can find the exact same item on eBay as use the sell similar tab located just below the pictures area.

once you think you have the number google the entire upc code and see what google pulls up for that number.  It should show you the exact same item you are working with.

Re: How do we list items now without UPC code?

This happens for several clothing companies.  So when I make a listing like this I have just put under name "not tagged" or "not known" and this allows "does not apply". Once it islisted I then go into Ebay and edit it there with the real name. Has always worked for me. Good Luck. Ebay is getting more difficult all the time.

When you say name, do you mean "Brand" ? Unknown, then you go back and edit it?

I'm on the phone with ebay, they told me there is no work around. I must use a UPC code. He told me to use the catalog.  I typed in "Calvin Klein long sleeve hooded shirt", and perfume, Dinah Washington Blues Album, and Amazon Kindle Fire came up.

He said they do not yet have a work around, and I said then ebay should have not put this restriction without a work around. Getting to hard to sell here.

Re: How do we list items now without UPC code?

You should be able to find the same or very similar CK product here on eBay or on Amazon , the CK website or that of any major department store that carries CK. Just copy the UPC provided by the source.

If you regularly sell goods by CK or any other manufacturer, simply contact their customer service department to obtain a list of products with the associated UPC's. You even may be able to get catalogs or sales brochures that illustrate and describe the products, whether current or discontinued.

Oh, I questioned the purpose for the UPC code and the answer astonished me. He said to be at the top of the search.

Re: How do we list items now without UPC code?

Try specifying the condition as "used" or "pre-owned." I spot-checked several pre-owned CK women's hoodies on eBay and none of them had a UPC in Item Specifics.

I don't want to advertise my new items as used or pre-owned. It's going to be so time consuming if the tags are missing, or if the UPC is damaged. Ebay did not take this under advisement before they made these changes. That is pathetic.

If they've been discontinued for over 3 years, chances are that UPC was reused.

Even large companies try not to pay the kings ransom for 100k UPC's at a time(the max for 1 UCC block), and the other kings ransom for having them in the EDI catalogs. CK probaby has at least 8-10 UCC blocks for UPC's.
