So, someone bought an item, I shipped it and it was returned to me due to an incorrect address. The buyer acknowledges that this was his fault and wants me to send a new invoice to pay to reship. I am not seeing how I am able to request money again from this buyer after the sale. Through Paypal you could do this but I pay for my shipping via my "payout" so the initial payment never went through paypal. Help!

Just create an invoice from scratch in Paypal and reference "item xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx return shipping cost" or something like that and send it to the buyer. Once he pays, buy the label in Paypal.
Then add the tracking number to the ebay item edit tracking > add another. Be sure NOT to override the original...ADD
Based on your description, I don't think there is a better way to do it in a situation where the buyer pays the cost with the MP system.

ok, that was how I knew to do it but was hoping ebay had an option to do this without using Paypal since I don't use it for labels anymore. I thought maybe I wasn't seeing something there. Thank you. 🙂

Yeah, like I said with the MP system I think it changes things but what I prescribed will work.
Maybe someone has a better way of doing it through MP, but not sure.

@rr53 Here's what I would recommend. If you ship this a second time you will not have any protection. This transaction is now considered completed in eBay. You cannot upload additional tracking for the same transaction. You should cancel and refund this original transaction. That will get your fees refunded as well, you would only be out .30 cents for the transaction.
Then create a new listing for same item with BIN. Send the ID# to buyer. They will then repurchase and you ship as a new transaction with full protections buyer and seller. It's the cleanest way to handle this for both of you. You can charge the buyer the .30 cents if you prefer. Best of luck to you....

You can always upload a new tracking number.
I've had sellers do that to me, they print a label, something goes wrong days later and next thing I know, there are 2 different tracking numbers for a single item purchase.
The problem is.. if the buyer doesn't want to pay again for shipping, EVEN after acknowledging that the shipping error was THEIR mistake... they can file item not received, eBay will find in their favor...
There is NO way to make them pay for re-shipment... your only options are to either re-ship out of your own pocket or just refund the total cost the buyer paid.
There is no way to just refund the cost of the item, and retain what you paid for shipping. eBay, very stupidly, doesn't work that way.
If I was the buyer, I'm an honest person and would pay again for shipment.. Unfortunately, most people aren't that good natured, especially around here when they know they don't have to do jack to get their money back.
It's sad, pathetic, lame,.. and true. 😞

If the buyer is agreeable just create a special listing for them that is just for amount they need to pay for the reship.
Add in the extra fees if you like.

@rr53, after the buyer has paid for the item, buyer and seller are allowed to share email addresses through eBay messages, so that you can arrange pickup if necessary, and so on. So, as long as it hasn't been too long since the payment, you can send the buyer your PayPal email address, and tell them how much the reshipment will cost. Ask them to send the money through the Send Money tab on PayPal.
Once you get the payment, you can buy the shipping label through PayPal. There may be a link on the payment transaction to buy a label (best to use that, if there is) or here:
The buyer may have PayPal purchase protection for this payment, and you may have to pay PayPal fees. You should remember to enter the tracking number to the transaction, so there will be a record of delivery in PayPal.
This is probably the best way to go forward, both of you will be protected, and it doesn't violate eBay policy. A seller sent me his email like this just last week.
