How do I get the volume of the package to change when buyers buy 2 items

I currently sell an item that comes in a 20 x 16 x 4 box.  When a buyer buys 2 items, the volume to ship changes to 20 x 16 x 8.  Currently, I have it set to let ebay decide shipping cost.  However, when  buyer buys 2 items the volume of the box doesn't change, just the weight.  Fedex charges by volume so when they buy 2 items the shipping cost only comes  up for the 20 x 16 x 4.  I need it to change the volume when a buyer buys 2, is this possible?

EBAY cannot do this.   Only thing you can do is change to "flat rate" shipping.   EXAMPLE:  $20 shipping for 1st item for shipping (extra $5 for each additional item).

Problem with this way... if one customer on East Coast and one customer on West Coast (customer would pay the same "flat rate").    YOU will still have to pay "calculated rate" to FED EX.

So this won't solve your problem either.

eBay's system isn't set up for that. You can change your settings to not combine shipping, so buyers pay the full rate for each additional item, or you can set up rate tables which may get you closer to accurate combined rates. Rate tables are a lot of work to set up, so whether or not it's worth it depends on how often you run into this problem.

The Ebay software isn't sophisticated enough to deal with volume shipping changes.  One solution is to become a shipping specialist so you can cover your costs based on the infinite combinations of quantitative shipping combinations OR switch to flat rate shipping based on the number of items so that each additional item costs the same amount to ship as the first one.

If flat rate boxes from the USPS won't work many sellers have one listing for single quantity sales and then set up a separate listing for those customers who want two of the same item.  You can figure out your shipping cost based on each scenario with the larger boxes.  You can carry this out as far as practical if you sell more than two of the same item you might need more listings.

This might help,

First go here,

https://www.ebay.com/sh/ord/?filter=status:ALL_ORDERS

and click the box on the items you want to ship together. Then click on the "Shipping" drop-down and select "Purchase shipping label". That should take you here,

https://gslblui.ebay.com/gslblui/bulk

Click the boxes on the items you want to ship together and click on the "Combine" box. Next select the shipping service and fill in the other info (weights, etc.) and when you are finished click on the "Purchase label" box and you should be taken to the Print Label page. HTH.

That's not the issue.  The problem is whenever a buyer buys 2 items they are only charged for the volume of one since ebay calculates the shipping (roughly $15).  I need the buyer to be charged for the volume of 2  items (about $25) , currently they are not because only the weight of the item changes when they purchase 2, not the volume.

Your larger box (20x16x8) has a volume of 2560 cubic inches.  USPS policy on dimensional weight will charge you the postage cost **bleep**

I have no idea why my comment on dimensional weight was bleeped and I can't even rephrase it.

Dimensional weight of that package is 16 pounds, s combining shipping might not save on postage. UPS and (the other shipper who somehow gets bleeped) have similar policies about large packages.
