How can a new seller possibly offer free shipping?

Many of my products that sell fairly well online and in person have a low margin. I try to sell on eBay at a fair price while making a small profit. I charge the buyer exactly what I pay for shipping.

So how can I possibly offer free shipping when the shipping cost to me is sometime the same or more than my profit?  And when I do try jacking up my price to build in shipping I turn around and find other sellers selling same or similar product for less than my cost and they still offer free shipping..  How the heck?  Is their product falling of a truck somewhere?

It's all very frustrating to someone new to selling just trying to supplement an income..

How can Chinese sellers offer free shipping?

My friend has been in the mail order biz for 40 years

a shipping and handling fee breaks down like this:

shipping fee is the amount at the post office. (period)

handling fees are many things, including the materials

that are used to package the item. Labor in packing

and transportation costs to go to the post office. (period)

Sales tax may apply at the post office, but no tax

is applied for the handling materials because the

company has a business and they pay state and

federal taxes. They have a retail license.

No other fees are worked into a handling fee unless

the seller is ripping buyers off!

The FVF is an illegal tax or fee whatever you call it. (Period)

I knew a seller, who after 13 years closed is eBay store

because they told him he could not include packing

tape and gas for is car in the handling fee?

This is stupid. Every major mail order company on earth

takes all of the amounts for handling an item to be shipped

into account. They have to because they make no profits

off of the S&H fees. Sorry but you are incorrect.

On line platforms are ripping people off because they can! (period)

But no worries the State of California will do nothing about it. (period)
