I listed an item with free shipping for the first time and didn’t realize that could default to overnight shipping at my expense. That’s on me. However, I want to confirm whether USPS Express was selected by the buyer or auto-assigned. I’ve reached out twice with no response, offering a nearly-as-fast alternative at 25% of the cost. If I knew the buyer specifically chose Express, I’d ship right away. But for now, I’m holding off and watching the shipping window until I get clarity, as the shipping cost is a significant portion of the item’s value. How can I tell who selected the option?
BTW, sorry if this is a duplicate. There's no way for me to tell if my other one posted, and in searching a few pages, I did not see the post I made an hr ago.

You can look at the shipping section in the listing and see what shipping options you offered.

Yes it states that, but look at the estimated dates:

Interesting, thanks for noting that. At least it gives me some coverage. I shipped with FEDEX 2 day which shows the same delivery timeframe as the $30 more USPS Express that was preselected. I messaged the buyer a last time with pics of the same delivery dates so he knows that the FEDEX option is the same as the USPS one from the standpoint of expediency.
Hopefully there's no negative feedback due to all of this. I'll chalk this up as a learning lesson.

You shipping does not specific a shipping provider it only states overnight and that you will ship it within two days. You can use who you want as the shipper.

I'm in a town of about 45k people, roughly 40 miles from a distribution center. I've overheard clerks telling customers they no longer have an overnight service. You can still buy it, but it is no faster than Priority Mail. This is due to the reduction in trucks that pick up mail from local post offices. This may be why your delivery date estimates seemed off.
That is a sucky lesson to learn. Glad you are taking it with such maturity. That bodes well for you.

This is why I started using Business Policies last year -- I sold a leather messenger bag offering mistaken free shipping and it wiped out my entire profit. No wonder it sold so fast. 😂
With Shipping policies, I can now easily identify which listings are offering which shipping options. And if I don't have a shipping policy offering free shipping, there's no way a listing can mistakenly offer that.

I assume that because no actual service is selected they're just throwing out generic estimates.
It is pretty amusing to see though considering there's another current thread about GA showing 1-4 day estimates LOL!

Buyers can only select shipping terms set up by YOU on the listing.

Ya, I noticed that.
Don't know how Ebay considers that over night.
Even with the 2 day handling time, doesn't make sense.

USPS guarantees their priority express. They miss date, you get your money back. We live in a rural area, and when we use priority express 98% of the time it is delivered in one or two days.
