How best to handle a return for item

So I sold a pair of preowned shoes. The buyer has messaged  me that received them, she thought they looked great and fit great but when she wore them  one of them came apart on her later that night (they're high platforms--I'm glad she wasn't hurt). She hoped I might have a replacement pair as this pair is appears defective.

I'm not that sort of seller (my eBay sales are really just my own slow, online yard sale) so have no backup stock. In my reply I explained that I have no other shoes like that but will send her a prepaid label to return them to me and, when I receive them, I will refund her.

I told her to lmk if that will work for her. I assume she'll say 'yes' and I'm wondering what the best way to do this return. Are there specific tools I should use to get her both a label and the refund? Can I request a fee refund from eBay? Anything I'm not thinking of?

This is my first return and I just want to 'do it by the book'. TIA

Tell your buyer to do the following:

My ebay > Purchase history > More actions > Return this item

Depending on the reason, determines who pays return shipping. A prepaid shipping label is provided. The buyer prints out the label, affixes it to the package, takes it to the post office. Have the clerk SCAN the label. When the package shows DELIVERED back to the seller, the seller has 6 days to refund the buyer. If no refund, the buyer clicks the link to Ask ebay to step in to force the refund.  The seller is reimbursed the FVF charged on the sale.

Unless you want to save on paying the shipping and just let she keep and dispose of the items on her side - then you would just refund her and you would be out the original cost and shipping.  And yes, I have bought shoes from someone nearly new looking - but age made the heel crumble the first day I wore them - CRUMBLE as in fall apart - (since they were steel toed) - I was nearly sent home for re-placement to work as there were no heels left.

Why pay postage on a pair of broken shoes?  Just refund the purchase price and move on. By the way, I had a nearly identical situation happened to me just last week, a pair of new old stock golf shoes that looked great on the outside but had some degradation internally that only became apparent when worn.
